300ZX NA, is as fast as a S13 TURBO

    Mate, I had a 180SX CA18DET (1.8ltr turbo).

    180sx, S13... same sh*t.

look at 1/4 mile times and you will see for yourself. A NA 300ZX is as fast as most stock TURBO S13's

So if speed/acceleration is part of what you want in your car, u wont be happy with a NA S13.

My mate had one, and my CA18DET left it standing. So.. a NA 300ZX will do the same.

BUT... in saying that, hold off, add some more coin, and make sure you get a MANUAL!!!!

If you want a car sooner and $8K is all you got, you should be able to get a NA S13 and heave about $2K change. But just dont try dragging a NA Zed when you go to the track ;)

pick up a decent one it will reward your wallet afterwards. don't rush into a cheapie because it might cost a bit to get it up to stock spec let alone have money for mods.

    That was me!

    Well.. close

    6K + 12k... ??

I have receipts tallying up a lot of money.. but now EVERYTHING on the car has been maintained in some way
new alternator, recond performance engine, clutch, tuned, about to get a whole new exhaust, all electrics and sensors, undercar bushes, full servicing, new stereo and leather interior, alarms.. everything

    you name it im PZP`s #1 customer :) :)

But now shes a faultless roaring n/a machine :) Such an engaging drive.

    I recommend the na

Also remember that price does not necessarily equal quality. An expensive car is not necessarily a good one. On the same token, there are good cheap bargains out there as well as some grossly overpriced ones.

Therefore it is most important to have it checked. Engine condition and straightness of the body, gearbox etc are expensive to rebuild so must be right.

You may be able to live with a scratch or worn seats for a while and fix it as you go. If the engine dies, you need big money to fix it.

    Good luck in your hunt

    Hi Simon,
I've got a Jap Import NA. From my experience, more often than not - you get what you pay for. I have had no problems with mine, recently changed my clutch to a heavy duty one as my old one was worn out. Car is going great
    Good luck with your search

Australia only saw the poverty SX's here, not the good ones unless it's an import. Although dont tell them that, Fast and Furious rules y0! lol

hi there. I'm 18 (turning 19 soon) and have owned my NA zed for a few months now. Not as much of a slug as people say. Complicated and cramped engine bay, but in time you'll learn it, and then you'll see how well designed it is. Timeless good looks, and with a few simple mods you can make it nearly as fast as a stock TT on standard boost. I got mine for 10 grand, 97k kilometres on the clock. Have since spent another 2 grand or so on mods, the big service and various other bits and pieces. It's great fun and will become a big part of your life. Just beward, as i understand it, you cannot modify a cars engine for performance in victoria if you turned 18 after July this year. Not sure if this is true though...

Hey there mate. The Z is my second car, not due to a crash either guys :)

I can honestly say that its great! i use mine as a daily driver and i barely ever have a problem, and pretty much all the roblems i have are of my own doing... tyres and clutches haha :p

Mine's an '89 import, so its one of the oldest ones... it was in near-imaculate condition when i bought it for $10,000 and i havent had to spend much on it at all, apart from the necessary things such as maintenance that comes with any car you buy...

As for grunt, the NA packs a fair whallop. Snapping second chirps the tyres when the roads dry and puts the arse out a bit in the wet, certainly makes the commodore drivers back off a bit :p it also sounds good and cruises along nicely, with the power to get moving when u want it to

So yeah, there's my 36.25 cents

Mine WAS an import. And dont knock it. Gonna take me a while to get over that car.

I could have easily just kept it, thrown the money I've now spent buying and transporting a Zed, into the car.

Would have been running low 13's by now and still had change to re-do the interior and add a rear bar (only thing it was missing on the outside) and do a break upgrade and lower the front suspension.

    Frigging awsome car.

Never ever knock the 180SX in my presence :p

Lol, but yeah, im a zedder now like i always thought i wanted to be and so on with making the most of my purchase.

100% agree with Jaybo. I bought my first zed in feb this year for 5k. I wasn't sure what I am doing. didn't have any idea about the car. It was imported 92 auto 2 seater. Somebody was in rush and wasn't member of the forum. there was no issue with the car. Just Power steering wasn't working. The guy who was selling moving house and didn't have any place to leave the car so I paid cash before he was leaving country and fixed all the issue and sold the car for 10k :D after 2 months. Then bought manual 2+2 red 93 NA aus spec and i love it. The car was looked after really good. Now 200k service is done and checked by TOM and there is no fault which is really cool. I paid 13k for this car. But at that time it was hard to get a good 2+2 and it was the car I was looking for. So NA are awesome and take your time to choose one.

    Things to consider...

    How are your finances?

I know at 18 money can be tight...

If you're working full time you should be fine though... :)

My first car was a Toyota Supra. Great car, but crap on fuel. If I knew what I know now, back then, I would of got a basic 4 cylinder car which was great on fuel, cheap to run and parts easy to source. Only because back then when you're studying and partying, last thing you want to do is put most of your wage into keeping a car running. For a daily driver, it wasn't the best option...but I''ve always been hooked on JP pocket rockets, and that's my curse...

Depends on what you want though and if you don't care about things like that. I'm only comparing it to the other daily drivers I've owned. 850km's to a tank comes in handy...400km to a tank leaves you broke.

Though an NA is a smart move. I would of totally advised against a TT at your age. Least the NA will be cheaper to run and better on the fuel...I hope...depends if you find a good one or not... :)

An S13 will probably be cheaper to run and parts might be a tad easier to find than a 300. But the 300 is a better looking car with more power and more class...it will put you in a different category...more woman love 'em... :)

At least try it out anyway. You might have a hard time finding a good example for $8k though. Buyer beware. Remember, you get what you pay for...8k would be the bottom of the barrel and the owner will have a good reason for selling one that cheap...be prepared to fix a few things...you'll be fixing things on ones which cost 10 - 16k anyway...it's just a question of what and how many... ;)

    Good luck with your search...

    Cheers
    Rob.
