I've had me 1989 Z32 TT for about 3 weeks now and I'm wondering what sort of fuel economy I should be getting.

It seems I'm using about 24L/100km (city driving but certainly not thrashing it).

This seems absurdly high. It's got Nismo computer in it but I don't think the performance is above and beyond a "normal" Zed.

What sort of economy should I be expecting or what sort of economy do others obtain roughly?

    Thanks.

lol.. so on $10 fuel you get about 35-40klm's?

Thats worse than my 78 Corvette.. and thats saying something :p My Z had an aftermarket computer system, and a great tune, and saw close to 100klm's per $10.. Although before the ECU change it had some crappy central 20, japanese rom in it, which was tuned like a pig, and would get about 40-50klm's from the same $10..

    Many other causes though :(

thats way too much, could be a number of factors but there is a good possibility your o2 sensors are dead, probably conbined with a less than perfect tune

Yeah Id be checking out the o2 sensors and doing a boost leak test. Thats seems really high consumption for a zed. I get 600km a tank on the highway and about 400km a tank when ive been driving it hard through the mountains. Before I replaced my 02's I was getting about 250km out of a tank. Yikes!!

Check here for some possible causes.

Somethings wrong there. I get around 15L/100km around town and around 8-10 for long drive along country roads. And I've got a Mines chip in mine which runs rich and boost is up and all. I'd be looking for reasons.

24l/100 is huge. If all that is going to the engine it musnt be running too well. Checked for fuel leaks?

CAN WE PLEASE BAN ALL NEW THREADS ABOUT FUEL ECONOMY... how many times do we have 2 go over this

Right after we ban all threads about "what turbos should I use?" and "what's everyones favourite pistons"...

My guess is the O2's, and the nismo ECU. I was getting 300k's per tank with my E-manage installed (untuned so it should have done nothing), fixed once I bypassed it. Back to over 500k's per tank now

To be fair to this new user there should be an article in the Tech section FAQ that deals with this question. For the record the figure is 9.8l / 100km highway cycle for a TT.
This figure corresponds with many of the forum members who are running their cars efficiently and are getting 650-700km on a tank in freeway conditions.

I run on 98RON, I'm driving an NA manual and I'm lucky to get 400km to the tank... usually I average 17-18L per 100km (and I drive like a grandma, using the throttle sparingly, don't thrash it...) Not good considering O2's are fine, no error codes, Stock NA tune. I still haven't checked for vacuum leaks and haven't checked the Fuel pressure regulator or fuel pressure. Gotta get it fixed soon as I think the over-fueling has fouled the spark plugs but I don't want to replace them until the overfuelling is fixed.

Twin Turbo Factory fuel economy figures are as follows

    MPG, city/highway 18/24

    18MPG ~ 15.5 Litres/100km
    24 MPG ~ 11.6Litres per 100km

With a good tune you can achieve better.
but I feel this is the very best you would expect with a factory ECU considering a lot of cars could be a little tired.

This would give an approximate range of 458km in the city, and 612 km highway cycle.

With the unichip, I can achieve 8 litres/100km at 90kmph, and about 9 litres /100km at 100kmph, this would give me a maximum range of 887 km from a full tank of 71 litres at 90 kmph or 788 km from a full tank at 100kmph.

three dozen chains to the hogs head.

Seriously, when I first got my Z is needed a lot of maintenance and a little restoration. Was 250 kms per tank at worst. The det sensor bypass was a big improvement. As was getting the AAC valve (auto idle adjuster) to function again and the IACV (auto choke) too.

TT 89 Jspec auto stock. 98 fuel. Some cylinders are a bit low on compression. Suburban driving mainly, a bit heavy footed.

Many little but important fixups being done I now get about 400 kms per fill (I dont run the tank right down. So 400 per 60 liters roughly = 15L/100km.
If im only on the highway ill get close to 10L/100km.

Read up heaps on the tec section of this site and be patient, lots of the members here will be willing to help you out too. There is a lot of simple-if-you-know-how tricks to the 300zx r32 which can improve a car heaps (economy, performance, reliability, enjoyability).

The cool thing is you might just have another 100Hp under the bonnet waiting to be unleashed for under $50. :D

Yeah with my 250rwkw tune my economy isnt what it used to be. I went from $50 per week on fuel to $100 per week on fuel  Although most of that is caused by "boost happiness" ;)

So from a full tank, for the last 100km I drove like a granny, kept it under 3000rpm etc. Took 15L to take it back to full again. So I guess I'm actually at stock economy as that is all city driving. But as boost is so much fun, I guess I wont be seeing those figures very often :zlove:

But yeah, didnt buy a sports car expecting it to be frugal on fuel.
