Hey Boys/Girls, got some tyres I no longer need so I thought I would post them. Specs - 4 Federal 235/40 R18 91W SS-595, $300 for all 4, tyres were on 18" Chromies and were aparantly not legal on my 300zx as the load index on the tyres was not the same as the 300zx load index requirement. Dunno if the later model Z's were the same rating but thats your job to find out if you intend on buying... Tyres have about 60-70% tread and I can email pictures if needed as I am too lazy to post pic's here. I'm in Brissy - Logan, think thats all you need to know... thanks, pm for extra info or questions
lol i dont see why they would be illegal.....thats just weird....just dont point the cops in my direction
It's all good you can talk your little heart away... but yeah if you got the same sizes as my tyres then yeah. I have a defect notice for it too, if you look at the tyres where it says "91w" and compare that to the specs on the car (which is on the panel when you open the door, little plate there) the cars requirement is "92" which means they are 1 point under and are indeed illegal, sucks cos they were still good tyres so i had to go buy 4 brand new ones! $800 later...... funny because I got defected for a tiny thing on the tyres but not for having no battery clamp or spare tyre?
You don't need a spare tyre. However, if you DO have a spare tyre, it has to be in good condition and usable. Weird hey?
does the notice say why its a defect.....instead of just numbers? or dont they give you enough traction or something?
i just had a look at my tyres....and my front tyres are 95W and rears are 92W would the 95 be an issue because its higher then 92???
No, it's to do with load. Each tyre needs to be able to support a minimum amount of kilos. Think of it like 4 jack stands. You might want them all to support at least 1000kgs to be safe, but if two support 1000kgs and the other two support 1500 kgs it doesn't matter, better in fact. That number represents how many kilos the wheel can support. Can't be bothered looking for key but the idea is: 91 = supports 400kg 92 = supports 450kg etc. etc. (these numbers are totally made up)
That's not the only consideration. If your car is not deemed roadworthy, and you have (or cause) an accident then your insurance company will NOT honour your policy. Prepare to pay and be charged.
Phat, You should have taken the tyres back to the place that sold them to you, telling them that they have EXPERTLY advised to put on underload rated tyres, you shouldn't have been stuck with the bill for new ones, that's their stuff up, they should wear it!
