Hey last night was on the motorway with what I thought was your standard ford/holden chump next to me. (was a dark night) Punched it a few times from 80 to 120 with him, I had a bit of lag (probly shouldve taken it out of overdrive) but still led or equalled, then I realised it was a new monaro! Hell isnt that a $50k aussie supercar? Im in an 89 auto TT on stock boost, only mods are a filter pod and an apexi airflow converter. Damn i was happy with my car last night didnt wanna stop driving haha.
dude... why post this story when you know most people are just gonna say "dont be a wanker and race on the road"??? I'm glad you like your zed, but race/drag stories are usually not tolerated on this forum.... of course, if you had said "a privately owned road" or "drag strip" then no one could really say anything.....
yeah i have had a few squirts against monaro's on closed roads/private roads/racetracks and in N.T when there was open speed limits. i burn em in my zed but it's boosted. they do go ok for n/a's. i think last time i put the zed on the dyno a monaro cv8 put down 250hp at the wheels.
my step dad cv8 puts out 225rwkw with zorst, performace panel filters, mafless 300kw tune and monaro engine covers for better engine cooling cars are quite powerful stock for stock are relatively equal with the v8 taking over at higher speeds, but speed limiter and theoretical top speed is higher in the zed
u mean race tracks lol i have only ever come across old ones... although i did get slaughtered by one.... old HQ that was quick as all shit... but i knew i had no chance when my ear drums were popping while it was still idling
the old V8 I was considering buying this old torana the other day. Simply because they are tough cars (built when cars still had bumpers you could jack the car on) , light and capable of fitting huge engines in with no fuss. The one I was looking at was a stock 4.2L 138kW, giving the same power to weight as the 160kW NA Z.
dont stress It was late, fine conditions, no others around on a split lane motorway. We were simply coming out of 80kmph areas where the shoulder was closed into 110 areas and accelerating up to the speed limit. The monaro driver looked keen for high speed but I let him go, no way I wanna loose my licence then I couldnt drive my Z car and im just getting to like it. But I hear what ur saying, im dying to have a go on a skid pad. Might do a driving course at eastern creek soon. They were there during the drift racing they looked like they were having more fun than the drifters.
All the stock monaros seemed to run about 14.0 flat on the 1/4 mile the other week. Not sure what they are supposed to run though.
old cars Theyre cool and everything, but they just dont cut it anymore. Like you say 4L torana with less power than a 3L Z, maybe was good in its day but certainly superseded. Still each to thier own, and maybe quite a valuable thing in years to come. Its true they dont make em like they used to.
Holden and supercar cant even be used in the same sentence, there's nothing at all "super" about a car manufacturer that cant make their own engines. The Monaro is about as much of a super car as my cup of coffee here lol
Lol I dont know about "Might" be valuable, but GTR Toranas are now selling in the 6 figure bracket Absolutly crazy!
Hmmm, there's always gonna be someone better The Monaro is actually a good car and I have been lucky enough to experience what a shedload of money thown at one can do. The brothers CV8Z has been extensively modified and with me driving has absolutely whipped an Evo8 to speeds best left to the racetrack. Saying this though and then comparing my Zed to that same Monaro I have been nose to nose in a drag with it and come away even. So with LESS money thown at the engine of a Zed you will get better performance from the Nissan. Spend the same money and be prepared to buy shares in Bridgestone and Bonds ...
What is a supercar anyway? Whats the definition of a supercar anyway? I thought it was (roughly speaking) the biggest ugliest beast any certain manufacturer markets. Hyundai tiburon? Hoden Monaro? Mazda RX8? was the 300zx nissans supercar?
when i think of 'supercar' i think of cars that are OUT of the average joe's price range, when they were released. eg, 'honda NSX', FERRARI, lambo's etc. and YES. the honda NSX is not a typo i guess the 300zx would classify as one as it came out $75k NEW in 1989
