I think we may be talking about 2 different rear speaker config's

The Z came with 2 different versions of speaker configs. One was of course the Bose system that utilized a self contained plastic enclosure in the rear of the 2+2's. Those plastic enclosures used a 6" speaker IIRC. The non Bose Z's used a metal openned area rectangular bracket which utilized a 4"x6" speaker. I had the non Bose Z. In order to get better sound and not wanting to go through the hassles of cutting up that mounting plate, I sourced a used set of Bose rear speaker enclosures from another 2+2 off of ebay. I then mounted a set of MB Quart 6.5" components. Works very well so far with no modding of the enclosures necessary.
    Hope this helps. g/l

The standard fit is 6"x4" Hitachi's, 4 ohm, 8 watts.

I swapped mine (they were sounding a bit rattley) for 6"x4" 100watt Clarions.

I also removed the front 6" Hitachis (similar resistance/power) for some Alpine 6" 200watt splits, now all running off a Sony head unit (no amp), and it all sounds fantastic.

My '90Aus-spec also had a Bose radio/cassette system, with Hitachi speakers. Didn't sound too bad, except for the rattley rear speakers. Replaced them with 100W Clarions, but thay drained the power from the original radio/cassette, so I upgraded that to a Sony CD head unit, then also replaced the front speakers to cope.

    I agree with Bellato,

I bought the Cadenve 4 x 7's for jb's the other day fot about 100 bucks and they bolt strait in. No troubles at all. They don't seem to handle much bass but the clarity is amazing!!

    Cheers,
    Sparky

wish i would have read the post by bellato yesterday. ah well i just went shopping and got: 15" orion sub + 1200watt amp off a friend for 150 (no sub enclosure) made a box, got a pair of sony xplod 6.5" 4ways, put them on the back of the box facing the rear seat passengers, gonna felt up the box this arvo, and guess leave the rear stock speakers running weak off the head unit, and amp the sub and 6.5 splits? will post a pic of how the sub box ends up.... i feel putting splits into the sub box also is a stupid idea, is it?
