Big Reds are available new from your local Porsche dealer at suprisingly cheap prices Last time I checked anyway
Brakes Hey Anymac the callipers are the cheapest part as big rotors and custom adapters and two piece hats cost thousands. Also did you price pads as these can be as much as the callipers. Porsch 996 GT3 and GT3 cup callipers are big dogsto suit 365mm rotor. The are very rigid being mono block, have six differential pistons with Zercon oxide inserts, stronger design radial mount BIG callipers are only $995 each but saem deal this is the cheap part. I have not priced normal GT3 callipers which I think are a bit smaller ? The new 997 callipers are a bit bigger again and suit 380mm 34mm rotor rotors and have titanium pistons and more than twice the price of 996.
Haha, + they look damn hot, which is the main reason to buy them right? lol Also can piss off the guy in the Boxter next to you.
... just as a side note people.... i set up some 3" cooling ducts on my standard zx calipers and the difference was HUGE!!! stopping performance from anything over 150 was dramatically improved and your brakes recover alot quicker between hot stop corners on those mountain runs..... just thought i would let you all know cos it only cost about 100 to set up
Yeah a fact I'm realising. Brembo make a GT kit for the zed using 360mm rotors, hats, adaptors, 6 pot big reds and braided lines, but looking at $3000 odd for the kit. The reason I guess the thread started was opinions on the wilwood six pot caliper, cheap to buy, but feedback has been less than enthusiastic. So I'll give em a miss. Swan Porsche have come back with a price off $500 each for the calipers off the 996 turbo. They're a 4 pot, monoblock brembo. But like you said JP, need the adaptors and the 360mm rotors. BTW the adaptor for the GT3 caliper should work as the big reds are an bolt on upgrade for the 996 turbo, so I'll price those next time I speak to you.
Porsche calipers??? shame!!!! If anyone has to use Porka calipers please delete the name at least :zlove:
Well the local Porsche people were "less than smart" They told me that the calipers were all the same on all the models and the colour was just so they knew what car they went on Red for Boxter Yellow for 911GT etc I didn't want to try to explain to him how they all run different pads and discs sizes and thicknesses so they clearly are not the same. But that would have just enlarged my headache that started when he told me about the colours He couldn't even tell me the disc size for a Boxter. Just a part # Anyway. Boxter calipers (red) are $680each new 911GT calipers (Yellow) are $2500 each new I think I'd rather go to Swan Porsche Wreckers and get a set of 928 S4 calipers and adapt Of course... they need big clearance for wheels as they are huge
So he told you they were the same caliper but diff colours, then gave you a price difference of like $2000? Did you ask him why the yellow paint costs so much?
Cos it's made of gold... who needs brakes when you can replace it with heavy bling, perhaps it detaches from the rotor to be used as an anchor...
