Hey people i had a 300zx up for sale but not going to sell it atm. ALL HELP IS APPRECIATED. anywayz something happened when i start my car up it squeels now ive found out its from the alternator belt but i got mechanic to change belt but next day it squeeked again but mate said when i turn lights on and the cars on or i put aircon on it squeeks in the day even when the cars warm so i would like to know what use people think the problem is as use own 300zx's other people said could be the pulley not aligned properlly or belt needs to be lubed or could be a leak somewhere dont know to go or where to look to fix this annoying problem.

Re-tension the new alt belt and check battery is ok by having it load-tested.

How bad is the noise? I get a reasonably low db squeak with the headlights on that annoys the hell out of me!!! I hadn't thought about a pully out of line, but I'm not sure if that would be it, wouldh't that cause the pulley to 'wabble' (lack of brief decriptions:rolleyes: ) rather than running consistantly offline? I'm interested to hear suggestions for this too.

I'd also recommend checking that both rubber radiator pipes are properly clamped onto their aluminium hardpipes, as leaks from these will drop onto your belts and may cause slippage. Also do as K-Zed says and re-tension the belt yourself so that you know it's tight.

    Agree with Rob,

Belt is almost certainly not tight enough. This is done from underneath with the car (on jack stands). Easy job.

    Cheers,

    Peter

In the first 100 thou km service for my car I changed out all the belts for new ones. I followed the recommendations for tensioning the belts from the manual by using a spring gauge, a strip of metal and a ruler, and after it was done the belts never made a wrong sound for the next 100,000km.

The next 100 thou km service I got lazy and just guessed the tightness of the belts (lost my spring gauge and remember throwing out the metal strip in my last move). Well I then had the belts squealing at me all the time for a month till I finally got under there and readjusted them, but once again I just guessed and got the same result just not as bad :stupid: So I got under there again and really tightened them up, and now they only squeal every now and again:rolleyes2:

Moral of the story is that tensioning the belts correctly is a bit of a pain in the arse, but so are squealing belts

My precious thumbs up is back and we have new emoticons!. Im so happy!:zlove:

Yeah... and who asked mods for the thumbs up smiley

    HAHA...

Does sound Increase with rpm? Have you checked the bearings within the idler pulleys and within the alternator itself?
I had a similar problem last week and got it fixed, all up it cost under 10 bucks for a new idler pulley bearing.

Belt tension would be the first point of inspection, but if that doesnt fix the problem, look at your bearings
