    Guys,

Tried looking in both tech and search and came up with no real direct answer to my question.

Im after infomation relating to engine oil. What is the original recommended grade?
I changed Oil recently and I used penrite HPR 15, which is 15w - 60. And since Ive done this change the car is now producing a sever amount of white smoke. No compression problem, already checked that out.

So in note, what is the recommended oil grades????

well it dosent say spesifacly one grade of oil but it lists afew depending on the climate of were you live ex..if its cold you use a synthetic -or semi , if you live in a warm climate its good to use a thicker oil , i would sagest you use pennzoil synthetic 5-50 i have been using it for 3+ years and its great plus its one of the longest lasting oils meaning it dosent break down easily (dosent become thin like water ) compared to many other oils and that means more protection :) give it a try ;)

I ran 10W40 on my old tired motor, now running 0W30 after rebuild.. (which with this brand is equivelant to 10W30 so don't freak out).

I wouldn't run a 50+ despite many recommendations for it around here.

Hi everyone new member here. Just bought a 95 maunual Aus-spec 300ZX.

Anyway. Why are people using such thick oils is the recommended oil different for a TT or something? The manual says that in our climate you should be using a 10W30, 10W40 or 10W50 (also 15WXX and 20WXX are okay as well but offer less protection when cold). If your engine is in good condition 10W30 or 10W40 is thick enough. A 50 weight oil might be necessary in engines that are a bit worn but a 60 weight oil is thicker than Nissans recommendations, might not be good for the engine and is bad for fuel economy and power.

I am new to 300ZXs, so I could be wrong here, but this is my opinion based on past experience and what Nissan recommends.

EDIT: MikeH got in before me and sounds like he knows what he's talking about.

I just tryed out 10-40 nulon seems ok was using 15w-60 no white smoke,, but been told heaps of black smoke:rolleyes:. I would have thought that if you changed to thicker oil it would slow down the white smoke if it were turbo oil seals? i would check the pcv valves first :)

Valvoline Powersyn 10-40W. Have been using it for the last two years and gone through 4 bottles. No problems here.

If you don't mind spending more, Amsoil from Street to Strip is the bomb!
