ey guys i know that this has come up heaps of times before, but i was wondering:

    1. what engine oils are good for our cars (brands) and about how much,
    2. is 100% synthetic good for our cars,
    3. what ratings (20w-50)
    4. whats the colour meant to be of the engine oil we u check it on the dip stick

My mechanic puts in fuchs oils. It's 100% full synthetic. I'm guessing it's better because its less impurities etc.

As for colour, fresh oil is a brown/honey-like colour. It'll probably start to turn blackish in colour as you drive around I guess the more burnt it gets the less it lubricates so you change it.

I've happily been using the Penrite Semi-Synthetic HPR15, which is 15W-60 for years.

Quite a few people spend heaps for the AMSOIL:

Others use Mobil 1 Semi-Synthetic 10W-40 as a 'base' oil (used by AMEC and in my car now, no problems).

The colour of the oil should be same as when you put it in, but it never is :p :D ;) Will go darker then black pretty quickly.

WARNING: If anyone starts talking about 'thinner' and 'thicker' oils, watch out - Baron will bite ya in the bum! ;) ;) ;)

Funny that, I only added Penrite HPR 15 this time last week. And since then the troubles have come. Im told by my machanic that it looks like the turbo is almost on its way out, though others have told me if its only happened since the oil chane(which is true), then itt is the oil that your using!!!
Either way, going for a compression test this Monday to confirm that my worst fear isnt coming true.......again!:(

im 1000kms away from my next oil change...

and im going to be running redline full synthetic in a 10w/40 or 15w/40,probly the 15 though....
full synthetic oils are the way to go in my opinion,a little pricier but well worth it for the quality and smooth running you get....
