Hi.... I noticed today for the very first time my oil gauge that usually sits on 0 or 2.... was actually moving today on idle it was on 4 and as i drove sometimes would go up towards the 8 then back down again....

this has never happened before and i have had the car for approx 7 months
    is this normal?

before it would sit on 0 whatever speed i did.... and mostly 2
i also could smell some oil burning when i put the car in my garage...

    all ideas welcome:eek:

Do a SEARCH and you'll find heaps of info on the notoriously inaccurate OPS/gauge. See also Tech A-Z :D

Oil burning smell is prolly from cam cover or rear main weeps onto zorst ... check it out on a hoist.

normally it should sit between 2 and 4. I would guess that your oil pressure sender is faulty which is a common problem. oil burning smell could be leaky rocker covers dropping oil on the turbo manifold. of course another guess though without being able to look at it.

    Rear mains a common

problem, K-Zed??......as i noticed an oil leak from that area today, may also have cam cover leak. ( hate oil leaks!)
also i have heard that drilling out the oil sender hole is sometimes a fix, i just installed a new accessory guage and sender unit today (oil and water) and also drilled out the original oil sender approx 1mm(keeping both hooked up), will let you know if that worked. :)

Rear main seal usually starts small and progressively becomes worse = puddle on garage floor. :(

Exhaust cam cover leaks are most prevalent on Zed's with nil service work to top end and weep is usually from the rear half-moon seal, (sometimes also from Inlet VVT solenoid seal) . Both may remain as weep ONLY and can be fixed when doing a plenum pull.

If its the stock OPS get a new aftermarket OPS. VDO makes them and the number is VDO 360.005 OPS

Take a look at this tech...

I still have mine sitting here yet to be installed once i get it all done will post up pictures of what i used etc just to explain a little bit more...
