Does anyone know if there is a rule of thumb customs in the UK / Europe use to determine if you have enough funds to last your trip before they grant you entry.. Its the only thing that isnt in writing anywhere other than its to their discretion - which has me worried. I think i have enough Im going for 4 weeks with the Fionceeee. I have paid for everything already, return airfares 4/5 of the accomdation is booked and paid, airfares and buses between different countries, etc. Only need to fund my food and alcohol investment, and shit like that. Any help would be muchly appreciated! Oh and does anyone have any info, advise or recommendations about Spain - Santa Pola, Alicante, Italy - Pisa, Casciana. Florence, Paris, Ireland and Scotland? Thanks again..
I've never been asked by another country how much money I have or any of that. Just have i got less than x amount of foreign currency (to stop drug trafficking and all I think). Just show them you have a credit card if they ask and I'm sure you'll be fine. Why did you think of this?
That's just a standard question customs ask in most large countries when you enter not just there. Simply say you have X money, credit cards and money in the bank etc It's nothing to do with drug trafficing, it's to make sure you're not there to work illegally or just generally up to no good. Obviously someone entering another country on a 6 month visa but only has $100 isn't exactly a legit visitor.
Cause lately everything that can go wrong has.. im just trying to cover all bases. Only been to Fiji, which felt like Inala by the sea. Chantelle had to prove she had grants and funds to support herself while she is studing in UK for 6 months. Thats a bit more reassuring, thanks!
Trust me i resent the place and i havent even been.. missues has been there for nearly 3 months already and it has rained almost everyday, hasnt really gone over 8 degrees, is always overcast and windy, has snowed and hailed as well! But im only there for the first 3 days then off to Spain for a week, Italy for a week then france, somewhere else in there as well.. then back to UK, Scotland, Ireland etc... I have can have a ansectry Visa if i want it, just vistiting this time thanks!
No, I meant where they ask do you have less than $10000 AUD or you have to declare it. That part is to stop drug traffickers. And your g/friend is on a study visa which is why they want to know she has enough money. I've never heard of it being a problem for tourist visas. Regardless, check out www.smarttraveller.gov.au and ring the Australian embassy to check.
Haha well that sounds better! I have a few Z friends that live there and they're always complaining that they can never drive their cars properly and that the food is horrible and all the chicks are pill heads etc lol
Travel Tips G'day, As was mentioned customs are only looking to ensure you can support yourself during your stay and/or you are not carrying a fortune in cash. Actually we found the customs in most places we went really quite uninterested in us , only twice were we asked to open a bag and in fact in most places we were waived through with a wave and a smile even at JFK when we had come direct from South America!!! Then we are both over 50 England and London in particular is hideously expensive, you really need to budget on the basis that for every Ausie dollar you would spend at home you will spend a pound in England (i.e. roughly three to one). Contrary to reports we found the weather (in February) to be quite mild, lots of sunny but cool days. We only visited Barcelona (in Spain) and found it a really lovely city. Beware of pick pockets - bag snatchers in all "tourist" areas keep your passport, cards etc safe. We usually left them in the hotel safe and only took cash with us when "out for the day". Take several cards and be able to access cash several ways, we found Travelex cards and a credit - debit card linked to our own bank worked well for us. We were away 4 months so we needed to spread things about. If you can possibly afford it fly business class, it costs a fortune but on the long sectors it is really worth it. Hope you have a fantastic time
I spent 12 months in Europe... ...on a working holiday. Long time ago but. Spain is cool, the South of Spain is yucky, just white and burnt red Brits everywhere saying "great weather aint it" and touristy crappy bars and nightclubs. Majorca was quite nice, though still touristy... and expensive. Madrid is GREAT! San Sebastian is a special place too. Paris, hmmmmm... go to the Louvre and sip coffee on the right Avenues and then move on. *laughs* catch a train to the south I LOVE the south of France. Paris has more pick pockets then any country in the world. (ok that's prob an inaccurate opinion but I've only ever been pickpocket once, and it was in a train station in Paris) And then we have Amsterdam.... and more of Amsterdam.... and a tad more and your holiday is gone before you realise. The Scottish Highlands would be a treat, but can't see it being cheap... London for example is soooo expensive, the mainstream hotels are for millionaires, but you can get by on the cheap. Buy a car if you're staying more then three months, pick an old banger that sounds like it has a good engine, sell it when you leave and it's a way cheaper alternative to a rental, get your license endorsed! And have fun. Egg
Haha, I didn't get the reference, but wikipedia sorted me out: "Inala is the but of jokes in Brisbane, usually in reference to crime, unemployment and child pregnancy"
