Even though i am not as old as alot of you old Kents, i still drink more than a few bottles of wine a week, i prefer white as i fing it more refreshing, given QLD's climate, i like savion blancs better, but some of the unwooded chardonnay's are nice, anybody care to recommend a drop?
Matua Valley Sauvignon blanc 2006 Matua Valley Sauvignon blanc 2006 from New Zealand, reasonably priced, nice light refreshing sav blanc.
Here are some of my favourite wines: WHITES Sandalford Verdelho 2004 Punt Road Pinot Gris 2004 Redbank Pinot Gris 2005 Tempus Two Pinot Gris 2006 d'Arenberg "The Money Spider" Roussanne 2004 Fishcage Chardonay Viognier 2005 REDS "The Holy Trinity" GSM (Grenache, Shiraz & Mourvedre) 2001 Christa Rolf Shiraz Grenache 2002 Shotfire Ridge Quartage 2003 Pepperjack Shiraz 2003 d'Arenberg "The Custodian" Grenache 2001 Dogajolo Toscano 2003 Except for the delicious Holy Trinity ($35-$40), these wines are around the $18 - $25 mark. The Dogajolo a bargain under $15. Edit: I somehow manage to fit in drinking beer too...
wolf blass .. red label chardonnay .. can be had on special for $8-9.00 .. normally sells for around $12.00 .. wooded or unwooded .. a good drop ... check out .."get wines direct" on the net .. very good deals on a wide range of wines .. and you can return, cost free if you do not like .. they had good deals on nz sauv blancs .. but as of today, seems to be finished...
Problem is You keep looking for the perfect wine. Spend all that time and money. Finally you find it. What happens then ? You drink it, it's gone and you have to start all over again. For whites, New Zealand whites, lightly chilled are so much more refreshing than the chardonnays you can only drink with ice to disguise the oak saw dust Reds, I love the real heavy ones, central Victoria, Clare Valley etc. My name is not Kent by the way
Silver Lakes Silver Lakes ~ Reserve ~ Cabernet Sauvignon 2005 "100% Cabernet Sauvignon grown in the Byford Hills, Western Australia at 270 metres above sea level. The 2005 vintage was hand picked in early March (by myself included ) following a hot finishing season. Maturing in American Oak for 18 months in a controlled enviroment cellar has produced a deep red, full flavored wine that will continue to soften with bottle age. Drink now or cellar in cool dark conditions up to 2010." My dad is the property manager and the one who built the vineyard where the wine comes from. The wine has won just below a silver medal each year at the royal show and has been rated higher than Penfolds 407 Cab Sav and Vass Felixs Cab Sav 05. You can't buy it in stores at the moment as it hasn't reached that stage yet buy you can through us or a few Western Cellers that are owned by Peak. There hasn't been anyone who hasn't liked it and its very cheap, don't let the price put you off. pm me if interested $100 for a carton about $13 for a bottle. (we don't profit btw)
Giesen Sav Blanc St Clare Sav Blanc Hardy's Oomoo Shiraz Taylor's Promised Land Cab Merlot & their Shiraz Cab Wirra Wirra Scrubby Rise can recommend many more, just can't think at the moment. I work in a bottleshop so forever trying new wines.

try "ferngrove- symbols . sauvignon blanc semillon"... or as we discovered after 3 bottles was called "the semilong savinblonk mate!!" or good old hourtons semilong is good
its houghtons mate hahaha... a semi distant relative of mine my aunty (horton) married another (houghton) which in queensland is pronounced how-tonne not whore-ton (hehehe im the whore one.. can you tell)
Does everyone have a decent Decanter I find it makes a HUGE difference to your grog I'm not expert, i'm probably younger than some of the decent wines you should be drinkning My old man is part of a small Food and wine Club called the Beefsteak And Burgandy Club based in Warrandyte, they trial out different restaurants throughout melbourne and obviously different wines, it's a good experience if your not the wine connesieur, but wish you were. Honestly some of the restaurants and wines are somethings you'd never dream of! They hold different social activities like a Prawn Fest, Melbourne Cup Day. New Zealand do the best Sav Blancs! Just come back from there and they don't do a bad beer either. Not sure about this french "pinot" stuff - not really appealing to me. Oyster Bay Sav Blanc has to be an all time fav for white. Im still trying to find a decent Red - i like spicy shiraz's so any recommendations would be appreciated!
yeh st clair my bad. another good one is shaw and smith SB, definitely on par with new zealanders and this one is from South Australia.
Shiraz cab >>> Coles/First Choice VCR-2 not a bad drop @ $6 a bottle... hic. It's a SA blend ...no hangover, yet.
