Has anyone seen or heard if you can put a zed on gas?

I swear on the way home from motorvation i saw a white NA aus spec with gas badge on its plates...

    can it be done?

of couse it could be done

But it would not be worth doing. Also there would be F all room to get all the gear in under the bonnet and even worse with a twin TB. Anything could be done but on a zed it would be ridiculous. Also there would be no gain and dual fuel could only be done to a NA straight gas system for a TT.

    Well I disagree,

There is just no one that has done it.

You dont have to do anything with throttle bodies. All good Gas kits now use gas injectors.

If I was going to do this. I would rip ALL petrol related equipment off the car and make it 100% gas. Refit and mod the plenum so gas injectors are in place of the normal injectors. You could even remove the cats and all other pollution euipment and it would still pass EPA

A 2 seater would be best as the gas tank is roughly the same size as the petrol tank and could fit in the same place under the car behind the front seats.

The new gas systems come with piggy back ECUs and run a car very well.

One day I may just do it as well. :D Great for a dailey driver.

Gas and TT engines are a good match !!

Not so sure. Where would you put the gas bottle to hold the LPG? I thought it was illegal to have in the boot as it's a hatch and not separate from the drivers cabin.

i agree completely! tek is right, ive been thinkin about it ey...

aslong as its a full gas conversion it should be all good, gas tank where the petrol tank goes, and since gas combusts hotter then petrol, a massive radiator and maybe bonnet vents would help alot.

also remember gas has a octane rating of like 110 octane, so you can run more boost! always helps hey.

but yer im contemplating a full gas conversion in the future, after i start working full time would be better :D

but to answer the initial question, i dont think it has been done yet... but yes it can definatly be done.

Directly behind the front seats in a coupe is the petrol tank. Its a big square box.

You can pull the tank straight out and a fair size gas tank would go straight back in the same spot. It is OUTSIDE the car.

plus remember a 75L petrol tank would be about the same size as a 120L gas tank, should check it out online.

Who let you back on Josh? :)

    Oh damn...

    He's back.

I was enjoying my stay on the forum while you were gone. It was like being on a deserted island...I was sipping coconut juice while watching the tide come in...

Now all of a sudden my cosy dream of solitude and quiet time has been abruptly woken up loudly and proudly.

Whatever you did to get banned the first time...do it again please Josh.

I want my fantasy back dammit.

    Cheers
    Rob ;)

If you say gas has 110 octane and would be better for turbos, ive heard there is a considerable drop in power when using gas....could someone enlighten me on this one..

    cheers

I've sold my 300ZX and the new owner is ACTUALLY going to do a straight gas conversion..

I'll let you guys know when he actually starts it.

True if you are talking about the old Gas emitter system. Not true or very little true if you use a gas injection system.

With gas injection the difference is minimal if at all.

Thats great then......even though dad gets like 600km with a tank on a TT motor, getting gas would be even better.....I do know most plp get like 450-500km per tank but i take it that has a little more city driving and also drive it a little harder, my dad litterally accelerates to like 60 in 10 seconds..okay maybe a little fast than that but his nearly 60yo.

Anyways i think ill get rid of the zed as dad drives it daily and i dont think its really suited to him and as its an old car probably also needs ongoing maintainence and mod bug costs. Probably get him a volvo, saab or audi for him and get a zed after i finish uni for myself.........

anyways great to hear gas has the green for performance aswell....

btw there are rebates on gas systems right....so how much does it cost from pocket?

I was advised last year that the new gas injectors

will max out at 300hp and that the refit cost will be about $3000 not counting the rebates etc,

The rebates are on stock gas system... Something for a zed if you really wanted to do it would be a gas research system.. In other words you are spending close to 10g's for the right setup... Yes gas has a higher octane reading but also you got to remember you got to build the heads to suit the gas in the first place... at 100,000kms service when you get it done on anycar that has gas you also need to have the heads done as well which means more $$$ Gas runs hotter and you dont get more kms to a tank on gas then you do with unleaded.... You either run one or the other and as what Graham said the newer type gas stand alone systems run gas injectors and a piggy back ecu for it But then again my old VL that was dual fuel had its own piggy back ecu for the gas anyways hehe :D

All this playing around and it will take so long to even get your moneys worth with gas... I rather stick to unleaded :zlove:
