Reducing Cabin Temps

With the recent hot spate over summer, an easy way to reduce the cabin temps is to pop down to your nearest auto store, and get a windscreen shade (you know the silver reflective ones). Trim up and place between the targa shades and the targa glass (sorry slick top owners, both of you :D).
You can see the reflective shade from the outside of the car. As it is right under the glass, it cops the sunligfht first and reflects most of it back away from the car.

It makes a huge difference to the temperature of the targa shades, and stops them from radiating that heat into the cabin area. You can feel the difference when you place your hand on the targa shades, and also you can feel way less heat radiating onto your head.

I think some people have done this mod already, but since doing it myself, I thought I'd post up how happy I was with the difference.

Side note, This mod is very inaffective when the targas are removed ROFLMAO :D:D:rolleyes:

Good idea. I was thinking of tinting the T tops but this is cheaper so I'll do this.

And for the cheapskates among us (and those broke from owning a zed ;)) you could probably use aluminium foil...haven't tried it but it should work just as well.

cool :) did you know we have an extractor fan between the targas? I only just noticed the bugger... it only works with ignition on but maybe it could be modded with a solar cell or somethin too.

Its actually not an extractor fan Mike. The fan drags the hot air from the top of the cabin over a temp sensor which is linked to the climate control.

The climate control then changes the air flow from the various vents to try and keep the cabin temp uniform throughout.

Its a pretty cool idea. Shame the fan wears out.

i don't think you can tint the t-top :( apparently because of the little dots that are on it or something......

........ oh and great idea pexed :p

yes, those dots make it more difficult, but I have just have that tinting done, and will report on its longevity, it works fine so far.

Is there any chance that the

reflected heat and therefore energy could affect the glass? Increased possibility of thermal shock perhaps? It already gets bloody hot doesn't it.
    cheers

    thats a great idea

i might give it a go but my zed seems to give off alot of heat around the shifter/ash tray area. does anyone else have the same problem?

Great inovation there Greg but I have to ask, does it look gay?

Yeah, same here. I've put that down to the fact that both exhaust pipes run right under the trans tunnel, not to mention the gearbox itself

It's no wonder it does, if you pull up your center console it is bare floor under there. Some sound deadening/insulation matting would do the trick and probably make the cabin a little quieter.

Thats a great idea Greg, and I saw on TV little solar powered car vent fans that you mount on the side windows that draw air through the car and keep it nice and cool:cool: Gotta get me some of them:D :D

I finally got around to doing this the other day - took less then 30mins to do...

I bought a red visor thingy to have the coloured side facing the glass so it matches the rest of the car when viewed from outside :) You can't see any silver because the normal shade covers it from inside (obviously)...

Does the trick that's for sure :D Highly recommended 'mod'.

tinting the targas can increase the possibility of them shattering, most window tinters will tell you this, and alot wont even do them
