    s_t_r_e_t_c_h flammin zed!!

need peoples assistance again and i need it fast.. i've blown a coolant hose on the rear drivers side.. it's hitting some thing hot as i can smell hot coolant.. it happened at a mates place, about 15km from home, and steam poured out as the coolant was hitting some thing hot. i let the car cool for a couple of hours and filled it back up, only took about 1lt of coolant if that and made the mad dash home, as i didnt wanna leave it out to be trashed at me mates place.. made it home alright, my temp gauge didnt climb above 80deg and nothing happened till i stopped the car at home, i climbed out to open the bonnet, after i'd called for a torch and opened the bonnet it made a light hiss then poured out again.. and was turning to steam again from hitting some thing hot.. the car is now parked for the night, i'll leave it there now till i fix it..

any ways does any one know of the coolant hoses on the drivers side rear of the engine bay? looks to be the one that runs the cooling system? is there any other hoses there near it? lucky for me super cheap is just accross the road, gonna cost me twice as much tho being in airlie beach...

any help would be great, i dont use this stupid heater here in qld so i'd liketo by pass it if i have to.. just wanna make sure thats the only hose there..

just ahd a quick look with a torch and i can see coolant falling on the o2 sensor bit, theres a little pool of coolant there...

    1. how many which hoses are behind the engine drivers side?
    2. any one got any pics of it?

once again o mighty forum please help me... thanks in advance..:zlove:

More than likely one of the heater hoses that run to the heater core...but there is also the under plenum coolant piping that exits out the back there. Heater core bypass is easy, the other ones may or may not be easy, depending on where exactly it's split. Your going to have to find the leak.

I daresay if it's dripping onto something hot then it's either your turbo or dumps, and it's probably the hose that runs from under the plenum to the turbo collant line.

ive already replaced the hose that goes from the rear of the plenum to the passenger side turbo.. is there the same one on the drivers side?

There is a hose that runs from where your heater hoses connect to (at the engine) and goes to the drivers and passenger side turbos. Because you have not yet done the under plenum bypass I would say that is it.

Either hose 11 or 9 in this photo.

damn and double damn.. i will have to have a look at me car but i was kind of hopeing it was the hose coming off the heater hose.. i'll replace that one as it's easy to get to and see if it still does it.. if it doesnt fix it i guess i'll be towing the car back to townsville so i can do a plenum pull when i get there... oi karl! hehehehehehe...

thanks karl for the photo, at least i now know what i'm looking at... cheers :zlove:

looks like i will be getting the car towed home.. just turned the car on to check the hose and the hose that appears to be leaking is the one next to "9" the one that bends.. does any one know what hose this is? see the pink circles:-

looks like i will be towing the car back home on a trailer... and between christmas and new years pulling the top off and trying to replace it.. and any others i find down there...

I replaced that hose with a genuine hose from Parry's, cost about $25, just did it under good practice while I had the engine out along with the rest of them. You could probably find something moulded to a close enough shape at supercheap but you would need to get the old hose off first to make a comparison.

cant even get my hand in there to touch it let alone pull it off.. lol.. i can shine the torch through the gaps and see coolant leaking out of it tho.. what does that hose do karl? is there a easy way to get to it?

As Karl said not too pricy!

I swapped mine while it was in the car, with something from Supercheap. Wasnt fun, but can be done, but again I would go with Karl and recommend the plenum pull and bypass if you have the time and get the chance. I found some manky dodgy stuff down there on mine,

    Hey Stretch

I am sure that's the hose I blew after I did my under plenum bypass.
I missed this hose, and it came back to bite me later.
Invest about 1 hour of your time. Biggest part of the job is getting the turbo pipe off that will be in your way. Brake MC is a PITA too from memory.
I used 2 small lengths of straight hose and a 90 degree brass elbow from Pirtek. That was an easier solution for me than trying to find a matching hose. Regardless, of which way you go, it is another option. Best of luck :)

i had the same problem 2 weeks ago

Luckily it happened as i was pulling into unique auto. The boys were kind enough to fit me in and managed to fix it with only an hour labour. They did it without even removing the break master cylinder!
But anyways what i warn you about is that on that same afternoon the other side went. i managed to make it down to Goulburn from Sydney without having to stop but as soon as i did stop she pissed steam out everywhere.
Passenger side was twice as hard to fix. They had to take the exhaust off and move the gear box to get to it.
Good luck mate, i hope you don?t get the same troubles i had.

thanks dave b.. luckily for me i've already done the passenger side at the start of the year...

i put a new piece of hose in and put it all back together.. the hose was a little to big but i just tightened the clamps.. this didnt work, as i poured the coolant in the engine it was pouring out the back lol.. so i went and got a much tighter fitting hose and now am going to attempt to put it on...

will update later, but i'm slowly getting there i think..

it's over!! yay thank you people..

i sat out there before swearing and stuff trying to get the tighter hose onto the car... then me little brother comes up.. he's a 3rd year apprentice mechanic.. told him what i was trying to do and he looked at it and "said easy, look at all the space you've got" i told him i'd give give a 6pack if he could get it on.. i went inside to get a drink and as i was washing the cup up after wards me little brother walked in, "done, i've put the clamps on too"..

i'd been out there for 4 hours on and off trying to get this leak fixed.. and me little bro was done in like 20min.. he's secret, put a little bit of rubber grease on the hose and it slide straight on. and he used his mini socket set to do up the new clamps i brought.. bloody brillant..

he doesnt want a 6pack any more tho.. he wants to do a lap of airlie beach main street driving my car so the girls will see him lol.. we'll see..

thank you very much to every one that helped me this morning with pictures and stuff.. i hope you all have a good christmas...

i know what im doing when i get home.. under plenum bypass!! :zlove:

The rubber grease is good ( and bad). I use ( and have done for years) a smear of Loctite (studlock or nutlock) for two reasons. It acts as a lubricant (though I wouldnt recommend it to Zed4life or Cresta) and once its clamped and cured it's SEALED and wont come off even without clamps (brilliant) unless ofcourse you have to pull your engine again ( then it's wrist slashing stuff:eek: )
