    THATS CHEAP!

Late 90's we were selling Zed's for 50-60K and the TT Supra was 70-80K
    I remember getting $120000 for a 33GTR!

    Ahhh those were the days!!!

    Oi settle petal !!!

    Note to self...Chrispy's parts ad 10% :p

Dont forget, in those days there were next to none and a novelty.
Still, $55K to $15 in 9 years not too bad, hell you'll lose that driving a new benz off the showroom floor.
AND before you start - I know - they are not a benz :D

The 15 year rule really stuffed the value on Zeds so blame the government~!
Before, the amount of Z that could be imported were regulated but after the 15year rule................open fcken slather!!!!!!

    Did I just say fcken? :D

hi mike .. mine was really just a general interest query

.. for some reason or other i was under the impression that cars in nz were pricier(????) than here ... when i first started looking for a zed here, some two years ago, i first one i saw had been brought over from nz .. a nice looking silver slicktop ...

Yep, I reckon I got a pretty good deal on mine at the time, $29k in May 1999. I was looking in early 1998 and most were $40-$50K then so I decided to wait a bit longer.

Depends on the car and how bad some one wants it. I paid 24k for my 95 6 months ago. Has 77000 klms full history (11k worth since 02) while in Aus, full import papers and compliance papers including engineering certificates for some mods. And besides I just saw it and wanted that one so paid nearly the price. If you are not too fussed I think you can get some real bargains as per any car out there. I had a 2005 VZ ss ute with full options Leather climate tints, canopy fully lined, towbar, 2.5 inch hi flow cat back dual exhaust, headers cold air intake all sorted from the dealer Paid 46k on road done and sold it 9 months later with 7000 klms on a trade in and got 30k thats 16 grand in 9 months thanks for coming. So all in all I think the zeds price wont get much cheaper than it is unless someone is really strapped or its really dodgy and needs to be flogged off quick.

We're not doing too badly, apparently my friends Aston Martin DB9 ( 2005) is now worth 68% of the $380k it was worth new:eek: Look at the bright side, every summer more will die off until only the strong remain ( natural selection?), and it's still nice to drive around and see hardly any, they are a stand out car, and when they hunt in a pack (20 to 30 cars) they are awesome:zlove:

That's it, I'm now selling my Z and buying a Gogo mobile...

    they are worth more!!
Who cares about world class looks, performance, comfort, sex on wheels, classic, one of the top 25 Cars in the world...

    My two cents are:
If you paid peanuts for the Z you will never appreciate it the same way as if you paid 10s$$$$ for it. The grass will always be greener.
I paid 17K for mine 3.5yrs ago with stuffed LHS turbo and will in no way sell it for less. Especially the amount of fixing that has gone into it to bring it to my acceptable level.

I strongly agree with Chilli's comments.

Couple of mates in our Brisbane office are Porsche nuts. One of them picked up a 928S for 12 grand. The other drives a 911 Turbo that he bought for $16 grand. I paid $17,000 for my Zed 6 months ago and I got a bagging from them. They reckoned I could have got a nice Porsche for the same price. They just don't understand... :zlove::zlove::zlove::zlove:

I paid $18000 in early 2000 for a '91TT with a stuffed motor, decent ones at that time in Adelaide (where I lived then) were $25k+

You wanna try and buy a half cut of a Porsche 928s ??? Same with a 944. They just dont exist.

These are cars you really have to show committment to. These are are a way more onerous driving investment than even a Z32.

There is no such thing as cheap Porsche parts even second hand. Engine stuffed in a 928s??? Go and find $30,000 for a rebuild !! WTF !!! ( I have a mate who has a 15 year old BMW M5. Cost $18,000 for an engine rebuild)

This is why the Z32 will be the only super car I will likely ever be able to afford to own.

Just mod the crap out of your car and enjoy it. It is already a classic. Who gives a shit about its value or how much you spend. Its only relevent if you need to sell it. :zlove:

Those 928 engines are a wrok of art. Aluminium block with no sleeves, they impregnate the cylinder bores with silicon carbide somehow. If you need a rebuild, you need a new block... Not to mention the 7foot long gimmler timing belt.

    supercar

The zed will be the only "supercar" I ever own......

I paid just over $20K for it back in early 2002, and have probably spent close to that in mods, rebuilds etc etc...:)

I may one day have a new, modern, more powerful car, but the zed will always be the weekend toy.

Throwing money at it is so easy, and I dont think you ever reach a time where you say "yep, I've done all I want to do"... (hell, I'm gearing up for a TT conversion for f%^ks sake :))..

and at the end of the day, the looks and shape of the zed are timeless..... why would I want another toy?

    Cheers

    Value of the Zed

The zed is one of the best head turners in the history of cars. In aussie they hav an unfair reputation.
People purchase a cheap Zed and they get burnt. If the engine is maintained and a few minor mods to suit Aussie conditions and the car is reliable and quick and looks great.
The fed gov has changed the rules on imports and Zeds are becoming harder to obtain. Just watch out for the cheapie.

ive spent way to much on my Z to be selling it and its just awesome cruising around with the roof off, one of the reasons i got a 2+2 is so that i wont have to sell it when i have kids in the future and i can take the family out for a drive on weekends. Lets just hope it survives that long :D
