just wondering what u guys think about our zds value over the years? I mean a gt ho phase 3 is over a hundred grand now.... any ideas...cos im really thinking of just fixing and veilsiding and stillening my z u know?instead of selling it for a measly 8 gees!
zeds arent rare enough yet..... i cant see them increasing in value till theyre alot rarer, plus they are a import which works against them over here in aus at least..... i think the general "zeds are to unreliable" beleif will keep values from increasing at all personally...... modified "classics" like gts are generally less valuable than an original car,so if you do modify expect less value if zeds ever where to reach the same sort of status, that is if you own a modified zed....
Then my input would be, if you are considering selling it already, then after you've spent X amount of dollars on it, the addiction will last for a little while, then you'll be back in the for sale section putting a price on it less than said X amount of dollars as above. Waste of time/money.
keep it Very few cars are investments.Keep your car and enjoy it,i mean what would u get to replace it anyway. In my experience the only way of doubling your money is to fold it in half and put it back in your pocket Do your mods and you will love it even more and never want to sell it !imo :zlove: :zlove: :zlove: :zlove:
AH - but if it was a gt ho phase 3 that had heaps of mods and not stock it would be worth 10k..... Looking around for my Z there is plenty that have mods, but you try find a decent stock one... Maybe its all the mods and bling thats driving the price down...
Well Id say if anyone were planning on moth balling their zed, they should start getting hold of stock parts required for putting the zed back to stock in the future while they are still available and affordable. Im just going to keep driving my baby till its not comfortable anymore:zlove:
Well the 240Z is only just starting to improve in value, a decent one is around $15000 last time I checked, and for what it is that's pretty cheap... I can't see the 300zx obtaining some huge value in 20 years, it's not as if there was only 500 of them made. Old Ferrari's don't even hold there value too well (except a few notable exceptions), our poor Z's wont have a chance... The GTHO's where a hero car, same as the GTR, the Z's just don't have that kind of status here.
I agree with Gazza. Owning a Zed is a very personal car experience, you either get a buzz every time you sit in it, or you shouldn't have one in the first place. You have a piece of motoring excellence, does it really matter whether everyone else has no idea what it is? The vast majority of car owners have no appreciation of whether they are driving a good, or a bad vehicle(as long as it starts, and keeps the rain out) when it fails these complex tests, they ring the NRMA/RACV/RACQ. No one has enough money to buy my Zed off me, and if they did, my missus would stab me to death.:zlove::zlove::zlove::zlove:
That's a pretty big jump in the past five years or so... but yeah I don't think our cars will ever be "classic" enough to appreciate in value. They're alot nicer to drive than a 240Z though Although I do miss the driving my old car...
KEEP IT Hey buddy I was thinking the same , I have made a decision and I will be keeping my zed aslong as possiable, I think that there value will go up in the next ten years to something very substantual. Besides we own a japanese super car so why would you want to sell it in the first place. cheers Zedipated:zlove:
I think There will be major changes to the fuel systems of future cars as alternative fuels become more popular and common Some of our zeds are already 17 years old. In 10 or 20 years I dont see them gaining any value. Think about what a brand new car costs these days.... They are getting cheaper and coming out with many more features at the same time. Also consider 'who' owns the zeds these days. Not high paid lawyers or doctors or middle aged crisis sufferers They are owned by more and more young people that buy it as their first car (like me). I cant see that as an appreicator of value though. I do believe in this current day and age they are sold for too cheap though. $8K for a car like ours is a joke. It has to be an effort by everyone. Make a pact... No one sells their zed for anything under $15K (and anyone who wants one will have no choice but to pay it if there were NONE any cheaper )
I think it may have been done already... but it would be interesting to know how much people paid for their Z, & how long ago. I paid well over $15,000 for mine in 2003.
I was only just the other day looking through a just cars mag from 1999 and 2000 and the average price for a Z was about high 30 to low 40 k . i kid you not and Supra and skylines were even a bit higher. I was amazed .
12,300 in 04, that was with 12 months rego and stamp duty paid. the value of my car will never drop.. sentimental value that is people know a good car when they see one and mine is one of them, im very confident that i will get my asking price if i decide to sell it, ESPECIALLY after the new paint job and engine bling i got planned.
there are a few reasons for the decrease in value of our zeds in recent years, few being that yes mods will bring the value down, yes they arent very rare, and three or four years ago the nissan 350z hadnt come out yet (or whenever they did come out) and now due to the new 15 or 10 yr/ 100,000km rule japan has more and more imports are coming to our shores. thats why this year heaps of r34s have come to aust because they started in 1996. i agree, just enjoy your zed for as long as possible and realise you have a great sports car, regardless of the price and age
I was wondering why Baz asked about NZ prices in my other thread, but i see you guys are experiencing what happened in NZ a while ago. We could still import all types of Z32's up to a few years ago so we have a lot over here and prices are rock bottom and still dropping. I've been talking to my Mechanic who imports/exports Mustangs for guys and pays close attention to the classic car market. Both NZ and Aussie are a long way from a classic car market in Z32's. Even the 240's and 260's still have not appreciated to any degree. The problem is they are Japanese, I know that sounds racist but that just what happens, they are not in movies, they are not 'cool' and people who don't know, think they are crap. Compare a Shelby Mustang to a Morris Minor convertible, both similar ages and rarity but price? How many years do you think you would have to wait till a Skoda 110L becomes an expensive classic? It is not until people hit their late 40's or 50's and have lots of disposal income and think hey I always wanted a fast Z when I was young then they will buy one and pay the money. That is still at least ten years away and it will only be the unmolested, low km's, rare Z's (i.e convertibles or hardtop manual TT's) that will attract a decent price. My advice (and what i have done) is modify the hell out of it, might as well have a fast Z now rather than a valuable Z when you won't either have fuel or be allowed to drive them. The policitically correct crowd are sure to ban anything that uses lots of gas and goes fast long before they go up in value.
