    Hi guys,

I need to change the spark plugs on my 300zx '90 TT. I'm not sure whether to go with standard, platinum or iridium-what is the difference? Also does ne1 no where I can pick them up for a decent price.Thx

Not sure, but what I've heard is that while platinum might last longer, they don't give as strong/good a spark as copper. I found this page funny:

Kinda bags people who go all out for spark plugs just to get that tiny bit more and get taken for a ride by the marketing hype.

IMO, just get copper and replace them more often. Probably end up cheaper that way too.

6 heat range platinum or iridium if stock TT, IMO.

Read this - it'll make up your mind for you.

I tried standard spark plugs and they are crap in a boosted Zed. I was only stage three at the time and chasing a miss so stuck a set in to see if the plugs were the cause (they weren't). The car idled and drove OK, until you tried to launch hard, then the plugs fouled. There is a reason why Nissan use Platinums in TTs.

    I would suggest NGK iridiums.

The standard item is part number NGK BKRE6EIX-11, but if you're running higher than stock boost you may wish to go for NGK BKRE6EIX, as these are gapped at .8 rather than 1.1mm.

DON'T try and gap iridium plugs yourself, you can damage the iridium tips.

I just bought a triple pack of Zoom and jap import mags and they do a head to head on major plugs in the same car on the same dyno at the same conditions. Dont have the mag in front of me right now but there was no misfire experienced by any of the plugs and only a few kw difference. Can source mag and give details later maybe . pretty sure they were all platinum or iridium style plugs tho no copper?.

these new ones are a lot better, the car is running a lot better now with idle etc.- don't know if thats what made the difference though
