nah if you add all of the bits of mesh together, it's pretty restrictive if you ask me. The car is proven to operate correctly with it removed so why have the restriction when you can do without it?

Skyline r34 so newer design the our zeds has the mesh only on the filter side but not the other.

Very controversial subject this one seems to be . But consider this was designed by nissan with a stock air box , stock turbos , stock air flow in mind . with the mods most of us have done I think it's all acedemic.
I think I will just leave it well alone.

As you can see, it controversial. I believe it's there for keeping out fingers. I took mine out years ago. No problems - just a big smile on my face. Yes, it made a noticable difference. The turbos come on much harder.

  6. check EGR and AIV valves

you can remove the MAF screens without any ill effects, but I think the stumbling problem is caused by something different

if you still have the EGR and AIV valve, check if all the hoses to/from it are connected correctly.

If the hoses running from the small pipes on the side of the plenum running to these valves are swapped (very common mistake to make), the car can develop an annoying stumble during cruise situations

I had the same problem with motor stumbling when cruising between 70 to 100ks, I solved it by adjusting my pod filter it was hanging about 50mm below the splash guard I rasied it so the bottom of the pod is level with the bottom of the guard, theirs no more stumbling.
    As per Beaver's artical.
    Hope this helps

EGR AIV gone 2 engine rebuilds ago , I can't think of anything else , this is why I am interested in the MAS. Pod is foam HKS BTW .

The HKS pods are oiled correct? Could it be oily residue hitting the hotwire?

You are bang on my friend :D
I just descreened it (couldnt help myself) and it allowed me to see a big pile of shit stuck to the filament .
I seem to remember over oiling the filter 5 years ago when I got the car.
My mixtures must be all over the joint .

I'll get it cleaned up , and should be a happy boy :D

Yep! I have to agree with you. I took mine out shortly after fitting an O2Rush Pod. The improvement from the Pod filter was equalled by the removal of the screens IMHO. Better throttle response mostly.

    Improved throttle response you say.......

by removing the wire mesh. You beauty, I'm all for that. Now, if only I could find my AFM

Maybe it ran off with my AFM (and my O2 sensors)??? I haven't seen any of them in recent times.:D:D:D

Cleaned up the AFM hot wire , first with a spray of degreeser to get the old filter oil crud off and a very light brush with a super fine kids paint brush.
Then a final spray of Isopropyl to get rid of contamination .

No suprise it made no difference to my stumble problem, But A/F ratios may be a different story. Have had detonation probs before ??

Looking at fuel now , got myself a nice fuel pressure gauge and a new fuel filter , going to setup the Malpassi reg tonite and do some on road testing a data logging .

    Will post results :)
