Hi guys, Been out of the scene for a while so I'm not up to date on the latest. Just had my clutch shit itself royally on my TT. Think its a collapsed pressure plate. Clutch has done about 80 -90 thousand K. Anyhow need a new clutch. I drive this car every day in peak hour traffic so I want something user friendly, that is going to last a while, and it should be able to handle about 400hp ish. I don't want a puck style clutch cause they are crappy, juddery things no good for daily street driving. Also something not too expensive. Please feel free to suggest a vendor or if you know a good workshop in Melbournes West. Anyhow let me know. Cheers, Danny
Here you go! Wallards in bulleen are top people, and wont rip you off! They charged me $400 labour, that included rear main and fly wheel machine. The clutch i brought is shown in the link. http://www.ttzed.com/products/products_detail.cfm?CFID=31198927&CFTOKEN=60172869&cat=25&grouping=1&grouptitle=Performance%20Parts&PartID=154&page=1&title=Clutch%20Kits&do=detail Been out of the scene for a while so I'm not up to date on the latest. wow $400 to fit the clutch etc machine the flywheel and the rear main seal not too bad.. At lest its not too over priced tho... I am guessing that clutch is a Heavy duty one in that link??
I think thats the same clutch i have going in this week but mine is pink is that a sports tuff clutch?? I work casually at super cheap auto so ordered it through them and got it for $500 (25% off) So i think you might even be able to get it through super cheap a little cheaper than TTZ or a similar price. Kade
Yes its 30% over stock or 1040kg clamp force. Stock is 800kg. The $400 install price was worth it. Its a pain to change the clutch without a hoist.
Yep the sports tuff clutch is pink has something like NSK-7050HD or HDB HD is heavy duty and HDB is heavy duty button. I got one sitting here for my mates 180sx... all of Excedy clutches have didnt colours to what they are hehe thats a better price tho $500 But i can get it lower hehe Did you get the Spigot too? I just tend to change them everytime a clutch got changed... PB-22 is the number for it hehe Also make sure the flywheel is machined otherwise Excedy will not give you a warranty on the clutch if the flywheel was not machined...
No havent got the spigot, what are they worth? and yeh flywheel is getting machined 2morrow Thanks, Kade
I am not sure what they are worth tho... I get mine for free hehe Cool cool should be good once the new clutch is in should ride a heap better... Drove my mates 180sx clutch is not the best thats why got another clutch here for him.... hehe too much sideways action me thinks LOL
Easy, UAS sports clutch kit. http://www.nismo.com.au Very easy to drive on the street and with 1300kg+ clamp load will handle heaps of abuse. Same as used in slot car.
It will sound better and be alot safer too... Had a knocking noise, that a mechanic and a few people heard and said it was most probably a pistion head... turns out it was the flywheel flapping around because it was soo loose
yeah i know that too well hehe makes you think bad things tho... driving along the ring road today get into 5th damm thing grinds hahaha too much abuse LOL
Thanks to all All Valuable info. I have done a clutch change on the Z (using stands) and it is a pain. Although I am confident I can do it I will probably go with a shop this time round. This time its a failure rather than it 'just wearing out' so who knows what they will find! Anyhow thanks all. Cheers, Danny
Get a twin plate, they hold the power, are easy to use after a while and make cool sounds. Once you find their sweet spot, you will be able to drive quite normally, they also seem to outlast normal/heavy duty clutches by a mile.
Apparently I've got a triple plate clutch (so the previous owner told me). It was a bitch to get used to, but now I have it's OK and holds the power brilliantly. I swear my left leg is slightly bigger than my right these days though. The funniest thing was, after driving my car for a couple of months, I got in my mates old Hilux, and nearly pushed his clutch through the firewall, took awhile to stop myself stomping on his clutch so hard.
The exedy full circle clutch is as far as i know, not a reco unit. Ive driven cars with trick clutches, most as just annoying imo.
