    Hey guys
My zed?s been loosing coolant lately and I found that I?ve got a hole in my coolant reservoir tank. Sounds like a stupid question, but would this cause me to loose aprox 200mls in 15ks of driving?
Also what do you guys recon of that chemi weld stuff for fixing leaks? (obviously not this leak, i think there may be another)
    Thanks
    dave

    Hi Dave,
Given that the coolant reservoir tank is well hidden, how do you know you have a hole in it? Where exactly is the hole? If it leaks some coolant when you top it up, that is quite normal, as the neck with the screw-on lid is a loose fit into the actual reservoir.

mine did ther same thing. i removed the bottom of the tank and put a piece of rubber hose around the joiner part, gave it a bit more of a seal and slowed the leaking down i think. but beeing so hot up here i top up my coolant all the time..

how does the system hold pressure

if the neck is a loose fit?
not sure where the hole is yet, but the coolant comes out as fast as i put it in.
sorry to say guys but i think i've had enough of the zed. this is my 5th coolant problem and i doubt its going to be the last. i think im going to get a skyline. down grade in looks and power yes, but they seem to be much more reliable and easier to work on. :zlove: no more

dude theres only so much that can go wrong with a cooling system, dont lose faith yet

The reservoir tank as you call it is really an expansion tank or overflow/recovery tank, and is NOT supposed to hold pressure. If your cooling system purges coolant (when hot) into the expansion tank but does NOT recover coolant when cold, you have a leak in in the pressurised (closed) system - engine/hoses/radiator.

when the overflow tank is full it will leak.. theres a little nipple designed to let the coolant flow out, its up the top at the neck..

Dave, I don't think you have a problem with the coolant tank. I think you have a misunderstanding of what is happening.
When you fill the reserve tank, any excess coolant (in the long top neck) will run out onto the ground from the join between the neck and the tank. It's meant to happen this way.
When the coolant in the engine/radiator is hot, the pressure builds up and forces the excess into the reserve tank. If the reserve tank is full, the additional coolant will leak out onto the ground. If that did not occur, the coolant would push up the filler neck and blow the lid off, thereby spraying coolant all over the electrics(not a good thing to have happen).
When the coolant temperature drops, so does the pressure inside the system, thereby sucking some coolant back into the closed system from the reserve tank.
If this isn't happening, there may be a small air leak in the hose running from the radiator cap to the reserve tank, or a badly fitting radiator cap which is sucking air, instead of coolant from the tank.
