Was up at Eastern Creek today giving Jp a hand with the slot car at a supersprint event. Drama unfolded just after turn three, when a Mazda rx7 went up in flames. the fire brigade were quickly on the scene, but not quick enough to save it. Sad end to someones pride and joy. One more reason to have a fire extinguisher fitted.
Unlucky, that's for sure. I was reading about it on the SAU forum and it seems that the driver kept driving and either missed or ignored the marshall's flags.
yeh i noticed that Drivers were supposed to return to the pits via turn four after the chequered flag, but i noticed a few continuing on around for another lap. Yep driver was ok. Where's your note Ports?, a race day on in Sydney and your nowhere to be seen. ]
Yeh I know Wiz, slaps ones self across te knuckles , but I had a lovely day at work. How did slot car go, any times?
soooooooooooooo they finished the race and he just wanted another quicky? ouch that is really bad luck
Times Jp run a 1.44.565, his best yet around there,(must have been the mechanic he had on the day) Jason ZX2NV, was there also having a run, with a best of 1.56.677. Skyline boys had a heap there, as did the rotary boys
What an interesting day! I went up as a SAU volunteer flag marshal for the day and ended up having the entire day in the tower with the CAMS Officials It was soooo hot for most of the day and spoiled me was in an air conditioned glass octagon with TV to watch Bathurst and view of the entire racetrack. I had never seen a car explode like that RX7, the fireball as the tank exploded was huge! I also spent quite a few hours working with the Natsoft timing guy, they do manual backup timing as well as the transponder set up.. I learned so much about what happens behind the scenes at a race meet, it was brilliant, I LOVED it!. Both JP and Jason did the Zeds proud, the slot car was looking and sounding awesome. They were trying to put JP up to a higher group as he was a good 10 secs faster than others in his group. But he was already in the fastest group so he had to go out first every time. We are so lucky to have a facility like Eastern Creek here in NSW.
Well all I was proudly flying the road registered flag for all us zed owners there today and as the day progressed and with some minor tweaking managed to get faster and faster. My quickest lap for the day was a 1 min 52.614 which I was stoked about. It wasnt all smiles though initially. On my maiden lap after 3 corners and entry onto the straight I hit 4th gear and POP!!!!! Loss os power wouldnt idle etc. After some quick checking found one of the intercooler hoses popped off ah easy fix and was back out there. It was great fun blowing off the Skylines in the Green group which was second fastest. There was an interesting 1977 Celica the mustang fastback one with a 3Tgteu in it which gave me a little run for my money on the straight but was no match through the corners. (gotta love those Hoosier slicks) All in all an enjoyable day apart from the car explosion the driver escaped before any harm could come to him. Making me think about getting custom braided fuel lines, brake lines and clutch lines etc. Apparently the cause was suspected to be a ruptured fuel hose. Also my new carbon fibre dual deck GT wing was worth its weight in gold today I seemed to be able to carry a lot more entry and exit speed through corners and managed the long lefthander after the straight in brilliantly the car stuck like glue. So thanks Nismo 300 for putting me onto Carmate.
Well done Jason Great time for first up at the track. Good point about the fuel lines. Think it's more the slicks than the wing thats keeping you glued to the track. anyway well done.
RX7 prior to burning. Looked pretty nice to and turbo charged with roll cage and yes shame. Apparently it was on fire coming down the straight. That big fire truck did the job but was painfully slow to get the last hundred meters. They started the big pump that was spraying the foam well prior to reaching the car on fire and I was starting to wonder if he was going to run out prior to getting there. Maybe the grass was on fire but did not look like it was? Check out the little rev up on SAU I did re ZX2NV time. I didn't have to mention mine being 7 seconds faster than fastest GTR or GTS-T there which was a moded R34 GTR on slicks my mate was driving, although full road trim. My post is middle to lower in the thread. PS We missed you Ports but I guess you had to run your biz so can play with us another day? http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=124981&st=540

great lap time Jason, I've updated the Lap Records page for you and JP: http://www.pexcom.com/forum/httpdocs/LapRecords/
would it be possible to add my times to that list? http://www.aus300zx.com/forum/showthread.php?t=239459&highlight=aroca Great times Jason, Good to see someone representing the 300's on the track, especially at Eastern creek which is a top track to race on especially down the main straight. How did your brakes/tyres hold up?
Tyres were first class and brakes held up okay although looking at upgrades at the moment again. Also got to get a race seat I felt like I was playing corners at the back of the school bus if you know what I mean. Going back on the 10th for the big GTR meet to show em why they should have bought a zed!!
