I second that... the company them pictures are from have an 8 second VLT... and still has full trim...

The motors can make big HP with just a SOHC...

But the good old VL days for me and Johno are gone heeh :)

And that is the beauty of forced induction. The turbos can make up for flow dynamics.

yeah that's true they have made big power with the rb30et, but that was more in the days before the idea of the rb30det hybrid had been thought of and by the time people were building them, too much R&D had been put into the SOHC engine by workshops to abandon their head design...

but surely if you had the choice of SOHC or DOHC when building from scratch then the DOHC head would flow more and be more desirable..?

I think thats good transplant, also its something new thats no one has done before. My VL T was pretty quick and it only had minor mods.

    I understand what you're saying...

but just because it can be done, doesn't mean the double overhead cam is necessary. Some of the fast RB30ET’s have gone the RB25 head… with not much improvement to show.
I miss the good ol’ VLCT days Nath, when getting power was cheap!

    WHAT?

Did you just say that a DOHC on a RB30 bottom end is something new? I hope not

    your welome,
can you show me who posted rb30det for you to correct with rb30et? all i see is 'rb30' in the posts..

main reason alot of these vl's run such good times is because of the suspension and the fact they are anorexic cars, something around the 1.3 mark

yeah that's true they weight nothing...
and most of them are automatics that run a extra-high high-stall that can't be driven on the street without serious hassles...!

hehe well thats true... CT has killed what i liked about VL's theses days.. most of them are young knobs with no idea at all... The old crew are not even there anymore...

pannic is still a SOHC and Vas from JPC is the fastest in aust... and is still a SOHC... has not bee on the track in a long time but is still sitting in the workshop being worked on to go faster...

VL's are good for one thing and Jono said it cheap power :)

and the boxes they use still are JATCO's which are full manual... alot of them are driven on the road daily... as for the ones that do 8's different story but ones that do 10's are driven daily...

the ones that do 10s only have around 300-350rwkw

theres heaps of zeds daily driven pushing that or even more with no problem.. but they only do mid to high 11s..

i mean alot of mid 12 second vl's run trap speeds that suit mid 13s.. but they just hook up so well.. they get an awsome 60ft and the e.t is nice and low.. but their mph lacks.. and the z would romp it in the long run :D
