ive been thinking about getting a incar gps system as reading maps does suck balls sometimes. any1 have a incar gps running at the moment. i know my mate had a NAVMAN and that thing was pretty cool, easy 2 program and worked well. any good deals out there? what works, what doesnt?
Cheapest option i have seen is the ones you get on a palm pilot hand computer thing, this can also then double as you guessed it a palm pilot computer thing
I have a NAVMAN iCN 510 Best damn invention EVER!! Love it, - i guess you could say "i'd be LOST without it" lol! (ok that was lame!) Fantastic guidance and bright screen, rather detailed maps as well. I paid about 800 for it when it first came out you can now get the 510/520 for about 500. Well worth it. I have also herd the TOMTOM GPS is quite good as well. Navman can get a little confused some times, and can take a while to find the satalite but other than that well worth every cent.
The trouble with those self contained units is that... the screens are too small for me. I am going the laptop/car pc route with a 7" retractable screen. The OziExplorer software is really good for about $130 and the Natrap Raster Premium Maps were about $115. I also bought the UBD State Capitals Street Directories and the whole thing is fantastic. It automatically selects the best definition map available for where you happen to be at any given moment. The GPS connection is through a GPS mouse from eBay for under $100. I have the whole thing working on my laptop and the next job is to get the right LCD screen for the Zed and build it all in. The CPU power and memory of a laptop or car pc will produce a much more powerful system than a hand held, which has to make compromises to get the size right, and the laptop/car pc route can connect to a decent sized screen for us old blokes , as well as running ConZult or Datascan! Cheers:zlove: Barry
sounds like a well planned, economical set up, barry .. .. does it speak to you ...?? ..e.g ..missed turn ..???
Beware of eBay items in this catergory. There is a syndicate of Chinese assholes operating out of Beijing, China, who are mostly offering TomTom GO 700's and 910's. They don't have any such items in their posession, and they are frequently using Ad's that they have "cut and pasted" from English eBay sites. Mostly the items are listed in Chinese currency (RMB 2200 etc.) and all state that the item location is in China. I reported this to eBay Security, and furnished them with details of user names and other incriminating information (which includes frequent use of almost identical payment instructions, and email addresses), and as a result, several dozen of these bastards have been removed by eBay (but more keep popping up). Just be aware that once you pay your money to these people, you will never see or hear anything from them again. One dopey mongrel was so stupid that he "cut & pasted" a Pommy Ad which just happened to have a huge, bright red message, warning people not to deal with anyone not having the genuine sellers User Name (lordc123), and advising prospective buyers to call him(lordc123) on a London phone number, if in doubt. I can't imagine how the Chinese dickhead would have explained that away, when questioned.
I thought palm weren't making GPS devices. I thought all the PDA's that have GPS ran Windows Pocket PC. I'm sorry, i just absolutley hate when people call PDA's palm pilots.
melways... still the best and does not cost the earth hehe If your good enough you can remember places etc...
Agree with angrybear. Gps mouse, and software, which varies in price but is available online. I used freedrive with the destinator maps, and I liked it alot. Was only playing around with it on a laptop but total cost to get this into your car would be circa 150$ for a decent gps mouse.
Sorry dude couldnt think of the name but i did add hand computer thingy which was a sign of my being not sure of what they were called
i have a NAVMAN cant remember the model number for it but its great, has expandable memory so u can load lots of maps on it and all the different settings u can use eg map sizes, voice communicator (ie turn Left in 300m's) and things like avoid tolls and so on make it really good, best thing is its easy to use. And if u miss a turn whilst using it it will either tell u to turn around or will chose the next fastest route for u acording to the way u went. Trouble is i paid $1700 for it about a year ago so for that price u would want it to b good... Gegs
