    Hi all.......
After much messing around I still have a misfire on no 6 cylinder.
I have cleaned every connector known to man. Including the TPS, AFM, Injectors, Coolant temp sender, CAS, Coil pack connectors and the PTU (type2) connectors as well. I even swapped coil packs with number 5 cylinder but I'm still getting the misfire on 6. I know it's definaltely number 6 that's misfiring as removing the coil pack connector on that cylinder makes no difference to the idle.
The engine compression is fine with all cylinders hovering around 150psi and above.
Error code is flashing 55 as well.
I need to be able to drive the car to Adelaide next week and I'm wondering if anyone in or reasonably close to Kilsyth in Melboure has a conzult or datascan I could hook up to to try and isolate this.
If not, does anyone have any ideas on what might be wrong?

I've got the same prob on #2 but think it's only at idle.. or at least I can't notice it with the foot down, one thing that's weird is that pulling the coil pack connector barely affects idle yet pulling the injector connector does. *shrug*

Makes no difference which plug I pull. I'm starting to think the injector is fouled. The injector is firing as are all the others. I can hear them with a screwdriver

    Miss

Run it then turn it off and pull the sparkplug out see if its wet.

2nded on spark plug and/or switch

coilpacks around and see if the miss moves as well...

I tried swapping the coil packs but the miss never moved from no 6. Going to go and get some injector cleaner now and give it a run. I'll take the plug out and have a look when I get back to see if it's wet

Test the continuity (spelling?) from the coil plug to the loom.

Also try some a different spark plug in that cylinder...plug may be fouled, rooted, crapped out, buggered, not-working, playing-up, given-up, etc.

I tested all the coil packs with and without plugs in with them all out of the car but still connected and they were all firing. I have replaced the plugs in numbers 3 and 6 (because they were the two hardest to get to, so I did them both) cylinders with brand new iridium plugs.
How do I test the continuity of the curcuit?

    PTU ,try another.

    PTU.

    Plug #6

You say it's firing but is it a strong spark? If not, plug may be fouled and therefore a bad connection somewhere.

Test injector is firing by a./ listening for click at injector when engine running - use stethascope, piece of dowl or screwdriver and b./ continuity test from inj. plug to ECU loom end pin No: 114.

Grrrr @ bad mechanics (I mean me)

I was wrong. Seems there's no bloody spark to number 6 at all. I must have missed it when I tested the rest. Just tried the coil and plug out of the car and still connected with a friend cranking the engine for me. I'm getting continuity from one of the coil pack connectors to earth but nothing from any of the PTU connections to any of the 3 coil pack connectors. I'm praying I'm not up for a new harness. I'm supposed to be going to Adelaide next week to visit family and have days booked off for it. If a new harness is needed, I'll be staying here :-(

2 thing left to try aussie...

    1) swap the ptu with a known working one, although it's rare for a series 2 to fail like that.

    2) remove the coil, crank it over, pull the plug and see if it's wet with fuel. This will narrow it down to fuel or spark.

    3) run some injector cleaner through the tank...may have carbon buildup around the injector/spark plug causing the miss. (unlikely)

    Aha...

Check between PTU loom out #6 pin>coil pack #6 pin for continuity - if none, use a temp wire btween pins and test again > if ok, it's the loom, if not pull the PTU and check continuity across PTU in/out or try another PTU.

    Bllody confused now.......

I did the continuity check from the number 6 cylinder connector on the out put plug from the PTU (Pin number 16 in diagram "D" in the following picture) to the number 6 cylinder connector plug (Pin C) and there was no continuity. I connected a wire from one to the other and continuity now exists but I'm still misfiring. I am correct in assuming number 6 cylinder is the one closest to the passenger side firewall? If not I have wired the wrong cylinder.

#6 spark plug may be fouled

Swap plugs? Otherwise you've done correctly.

The plug is brand new... Seems I have done all I can now. I was testing for continuity on the wrong plug on the PTU. I just rectified that and continuity exists as it should. I swapped the PTU with a known working type 1 and that made no difference. I pulled number 6 coil pack and the ignition relay and cranked the car for a while at WOT and pulled the plug which was wet. I have swapped number 5 and 6 coil packs and I was still getting no spark on number 6. I even replaced the coil pack with another bought from a wreckers. Still no spark on number 6. I'm at my wits end here

    Next step>>>

Excuse me if we're covering old ground but have you tested continuity between PTU #6 input and ECU pin 114?

No mate, I haven't. Thank you for that. I'll try if I get home early enough tomorrow. No light left to work on now and I'm doing this outside. As long as there's something left to try, Adelaide might happen yet. Great cars when they run right but when they don't...............grrrrr

NOTE: ECU pin 114 is correct for cyl 6

From memory, FSM has an error on the relevant page.

Excuse my ignorance but what's FSM?
