driver side turbo finaly spat it, chewed out housing.

WHat's my cheapest option as car is advertised as is at the moment( 8k) but am also in the process of making it drivable and dont want to spend big cash....not interested in big ass turbos etc..just want it to go again.

Has anyone had experience with second hand turbos ? are there any issues wit a turbo thats been sitting at the wreckers dry for a while. (seals perishing etc...)

perhaps second hand turbos with a seal kit/ or reco'd

My girlfriend says I need to buy an economical small car that wont cost a lot of money and wont break down...apparently she is right, motorbikes are too dangerous also so I cant have one of them either.

    rebuild your turbo

i heard its only like 450$?

    Benny_C About as subtle as...

I doubt $450 will give you a newly rebuilt turbo.

expect more for a proper job.

    - btw, you would never just do the one. Definately get both done at the same time. you don't want the other one to blow a month later.

just wondering how much they cost and how much power they produce

    cheers

I think DRIVER is just wanting to get the car going again.....

not spend big money on getting both turbo's done. He has been a long time member (before my time), but a quiet one at that. I think he's love for the zed has wained and he wants to move on...:) Either that, or he's girlfriends causing the waining of the zed love :p:p.

    Cheers

I had both my stock turbos refurbished

One of them was too far gone to use again so he replaced the ineer core with a new one cost ? $970.00
Ouch, plus removal and fitting to the car it was not cheap, but both were done with the engine in.
Other turbo by the way was okay and only cost $663.00
($295 labour,$88.00 to balance shaft & wheel and $347.00 for the kit)Turbos 2000 at Maroochydore Qld.
    Cheers:thumbsup:
PS - Find a girlfriend who doesn't want to run your life. Its amazing how some of them say spending money on the Z is stupid and we should all drive around in underpowered bricks from a-b, then go out and spend ridiculous amounts on themselves with little to show for it.
My new GF completely understands and I get no grief at all.....ah bliss.

    exactly...

As much as I love my car... (ok..love hate relationship) driving it everyday is just costing more money than I want to spend.

unfortunately I have to make this decision, I'll get another hot car later on in life.

Not really mate, only a couple of members going for HP rebuilds have opted for them. There's alot of fabricating involved and unless your engine is in good shape probably not a good idea as they are going to make a tired motor work really hard. These turbos can supply upwards of 400rwkw.

Alot of people have gone for GT28R turbos, these can reliably supply 300-350rwkw if everything else is in good shape.

There's been heaps of discussion on turbos recently have a read through some of the older posts in Z Related.

im going gt28r not rs.. should be fun.. if your looking for low cost, just rebuild stockies.. too much effort and $$ to change em just to waste time with second handies if theyre stuffed.

i was quoted $450 to rebuild mine, but thats only if the wheels and housings are fine.. if yours is scraping.. it will be alot more

Dont forget it will cost you $2000+ to get the engine out to do the replacement. So you might aswell get proper rebuilds.
