my Z is getting a blue slip done and me and the mechanic both cant find the engine no. please help where abouts is it located??? a pic would be good or a detailed description cant wait to register it!!! just need engine no now please help i have a TT Thanks
I don't have a pic, but from what i can remember when i got mine done it is on the back of the block left corner of the block (facing the front of the car) and you have to get you head right in next to the master cylinder to see it, it is a bugger to find, but not as bad as on a 86 Holden Jackaroo!!! (long frustrating story!)
i talked to the mechanic and he said you have to take the manifold and rocker covers off and then you can see the engine NO. is there a way to see it when its on a hoist or something coz the guys charging over $400 to do it is there an easier way??
What a load of bollocks No way you need to take the manifold and rocker covers off to see the engine number. Find a new mechanic and quick. The engine number on mine is clearly visible looking vertically down behind the RH (driver's side) head stamped into a flat area of the block. Need a good torch to see it and might need to move a few cables etc out of the way.
Seconded Cliff... What a load of Crap!!!! When I registered mine nearly a year ago I had to show the Dept of Transport officer where the engine number was so they could site it and confirm it was the same on the rego application. What I did have to do though was clean it as the punched figures in the steel were full of oil and dirt. What I did was cut down a tooth brush and spray degreaser on it then manouvered my hand behind the engine until I felt the little landing on the block that has the engine number on it and gave it a scrub with the brush. When I used a torch to see the number it stood out like you know what. I think it's time to find a new mechanic bud.
Look at my Engine Re-build thread, the 4th line " had a constructive day 2day" and there is a pic of the engine no. You can almost read it! Print it out and show them where to look
it'd take me 20 seconds to have your engine number written down. i think your mechanic saw you comming a mile away with a fat wallet
Removing Rocker Covers and parts of the engine... Yep, I had heard this before too. Check out my previous post on the subject when I took my 300 to the R.T.A. (Test Shed here in Alice) to have it inspected for registration swap over... oh dear what an experience there. RTA Registration swap experience - remove part of engine to see number??.. Seems to be a common excuse, or very lazy people! Cheers, Kaz.
mechanic not so smart, a smart mechanic would got it from the old reg sticker, like the mechanic did to mine not long ago, Vic roads, (you got to love'em,,,, not) and the sales man could not find it, i kept telling them where it was, just dumb asses.. put it on a hoist, drivers side, rear of block under the clutch master cylinder
yeah im going to the mechanic in a few days im busy right now and i have to put up with this dumb ass mechanic because the car has a veilside C2 bodykit and its a bit low and i have to install the indicator soon but i have to install it before he makes the blue slip so he has to make some shit up to make money and he made a oil leak aswell but i think that was ok i told him to do it because i cant do it at home that dumb ass put it on a hoist and still couldnt find the engine no nearly stuffed my bodykit up thanks for ur help
i dont understand why your car is still at this mechanics take it home, look for the engine number yourself, as i said 20 seconds at most, 5 seconds if you know where to look, find it, write it down, take it elsewhere, do not leave the ze din this guys hands, he's obviously incompetant.
Just run away right now from the place and take your zed with you! The guy is definitely a noob if he can't do such a simple task.. Zeds deserve better treatment :zlove:
