    Hey guys and gals

Well iv had my 1989 300zx TT for only 4 months now so I am very new to the world of the 300zx, but ill tell you what I'm loving IT! although I'm having some problems atm. well lets get to it........

I drove the car for about a month and then a problem started. My car would run very hard and fast (like it should) then for no reason at all the clutch felt like it started slipping and eventually the car would just not move anymore. But when i left it for 3 hours or so it would come good again. So i took it to the shop (mechanic) and he tells me my clutch is slipping and just fucked. So i ordered a new clutch from Exedy for a 1989 300zx TT. Paid $700 for the clutch, then paid $800 to get it fitted.

So finally i get the car back after a week and it drives like a gem for about 3 days and low and behold It starts doing it all again! now i trust and know the mechanic really well and he is a really good guy, and promises me that he did put it in properly and it must have been the wrong clutch, but Exedy tell me its the right one. Anyway has this happened to anyone before and does anyone know what could be happening for my clutch to go to such hell in only 3 days and not heavy driving at all!?

I noticed something this morning that prompted me to put a post up here. When it starts to slip i think i lose oil pressure because even at 3000Rpm I'm only on like 30-40psi oil pressure, when i think I'm meant to be at 55-60. I don't know a lot about the mechanics of cars but would this effect the clutch?

So has anyone else had these problem and know how to fix it cause I'm pissed off with spending that much money and not getting it fixed!

Any help would be great, thanks guys.

    you got problems

With the oil, mine only runs at the 40 psi mark, long as its got oil i'm not worried about it, Most times a new oil filter fixes problems like that. I'm not sure but someone else might have an idea on it, but i don't think it would have an effect on the clutch problem, that sounds weird what its doing. i've never came across it, hope someone can help you, my only advice would be find someone who really knows nissans, zed4life would be able help you in some way.

your clutch pedal isnt adjusted properly

what happens isssss the thrust bearing needs space between it and the clutch during normal use, otherwise the clutch fluid heats up during use and pushes your pedal down for ya casing the clutch to slip.. its called free play.. read up on clutch adjustment in the tech section... very common thing to occur if youve got an uprated clutch installed

as far as oil pressure at 3000rpm, that will all depend on what weight oil your using.. if your concerned change the oil and filter

Not sure about your clutch but if you are relying on your OEM gauge

then be assured that they are NOTORIOUSLY inaccurate. Mine works half the time and then drops to zero. To play it safe though I temporarily fitted a VDO gauge just to make sure. I'll fit it permanently when I get a chance. You can buy a VDO sender unit (see Tech article) BUT when I tested my actual gauge as per the workshop manual (see Tech section) I found it to be inaccurate as well so I'm going for an alternate set-up. Pathetic really for a car that was so expensive!

I think you mean the throw out bearing not the thrust bearing... and yes needs adjusting soon, before you kill another clutch.

    Please understand that...

....Ive answered this very question so many times it sickens me to answer it again but I'll tell you this, number 1 your mechanics an idiot, number 2 its your master cylinder piston incorrectly adjusted. Please do a search for posts made by me on the subject.

Is $800 normal for clutch installation?

Noooo, the throw out bearing is the big one that dissengages the clutch, the thrust bearing is normaly made of brass and sits inside the crankshaft and carries the g'box input shaft. If you don't believe me go and pull your gearbox out;)

No! $800 to replace the clutch is steep

Wallards did it in four hours = $360 i paid 620 for the clutch, extra 40 for flywheel machine and 30 for rear main.

lol, i have had my gearbox out, the bearing in the middle of the crank is called a spigot bearing.

thrust bearings is a general term.. its a bearing that provides lateral support (thrust)
