Hi guys - Just joined the forum today.

I am in the process of buying a 300zx TT and I'm not sure where to get these cars serviced and where to get a pre-purchase inspection done on a car in Adelaide. Don't want to take it to Nissan and get an inexperienced 16 year old apprentice working on it

Anyone can recommend a quality workshop that KNOWS 300zx's in the Adelaide Northern Suburbs, I'd really appreciate any recommendations

    Cheers,

    John

PS. Any obvious things I should be looking out for ;) Its a 1990 300zx TT auto import with 85,000kms

    Welcome SSASSC1

I would recommend morepowa at ridgehaven. They know their stuff there. A little dear, but you get used to that as soon as you mention the Zed word.

    Morpowa are your men.

I've just changed to these guys and have appreciated their proffesionalism. They have found things my previous mechanic didn't pick up over several visits throughout the years.

But heed the warnings, the Zed is an older car and you have to expect things to go wrong with it. Add to this a cramped engine bay and you'll find some trivial repairs can be very expensive.

So if you're not mechanically minded, make sure your pockets are deep.

All that aside, when they're running well, they are one of the finest turbo sports car to come out of the nineties, their lines still look good today, some fifteen years later.

Check out the FAQ in the Tech section on insepcting a Zed to buy.

    Welcome to the forum! :zlove:

From one 'newbie' to another.....the first thing the experienced members here will ask is that you make extensive use of the SEARCH function. I didn't realise when I first joined that it actually searches threads, topics discussions etc so just type key words & you'll unlock a world of info!! I remember this topic of Zed mechanics & good dyno operators etc in Adel being discussed recently.

There are a a number of Zed gurus here that will provide you with invaluable help! and all for the love of the ZED!:zlove: but as 'newbies' we don't wanna bother them with questions they've answered a million times before.....and in great detail! so SEARCH lets you read these previous detailed responses! & this frees them up to help with the nitty gritty stuff for others!

So having said all that.....WELCOME! As I found you're gonna love this site! you'll learn so much & probably save yourself a few bucks along the way! & congrats on deciding to buy the best damn car around!:zlove:

ps talk to Mark at Zedforlife(QLD) - he'll probably provide you with his pre-purchase insepection checklist (actually it's probably listed somewhere on his site??) that will give you some insight into the kind of expertise required to really sus out a good Zed!! be warned it's about 5 pages long! but it will save you thousands down the track if you invest on a thourough inspection like his first!

pps......ask around for a local SA member....

who knows their stuff! You'll be suprised to find many members are more than willing to get their hands dirty with you one afternoon working on your car.....over a few cold ones of course!!:)Cruises can be a great drive & a good way to meet your fellow Zedders! ...unless you have a bloody wedding to attend! ...so pissed I missed the GOR cruise!

I was lucky enough to find just that....a Zed guru here in Melbourne who spent the day teaching me about regular cleaning tips for electrical connectors, what does what in a Zed engine bay, ran a Conzult check for me on his lappy & suprise suprise both my O2 sensors were still going strong!, made a few tweaks as a result of the datascan, found that my TPS was rooted  & loaned me one of his spares until I can replace the part!,found a few major air leaks:embarrassed: with a vac leak test, changed oil & filters etc etc etc....and all for the cost of any parts required, a bottle of Jimmy Beam ....but it should have been by the litre(s) for what he did!, my never ending appreciation for how lucky I am & his pure generosity & love of all things Zed!:zlove:

oh & a few nice looking silver forum stickers for my quarter windows (they look great!) & a beer cooler to impress my mates:LOL:....and help the forum finances of course!;)

My car literally flew on the way home & I couldn't get the smile off my face for days! :):):)

Anyway my point is that members here adore their cars & are a great source of help & advice .....and can help you drastically reduce your servicing costs whilst helping you learn how to DIY!! What more could a Zed owner ask for!

    Enjoy!:zlove:

living in S.A who is a Z nut and would assist with Z issues . I have begun stockpiling parts and would love to be shown throgh some of the basics like pressure testing for boost leaks and just to glean any knowledge I could from those who are experienced.

    Hi there Ssassc1,

You will absolutely love this forum and will find a wealth of information and fantastic people to assist you when the 'gremlins' start to occur. Don't be scared - they will occur, only a matter of time with these cars. The good thing is the support you will find here!

As previously mentioned by others is the SEARCH function its great, use some key search words and frases and you will be surprised what will come up and there is usually someone before who has asked the same thing. ENJOY

When I purchased my Zed in Adelaide in late 2005, I was assited by Dangerous in the Adelaide hills. I first took my 300 to Morpowa - hexy but they don't lie and tell you how it is, I came out with a BIG list... Then with Dangerous who hooked up the Consult and found some other things to discuss and check out - adjusted the T.P.S. on the spot (because it was out) and away you go.

Lots of reading and research will do you wonders with these cars. Just takes a little passion and fun attitude to do your own work too, the TECH section is also a real help. Some of the members are just freaks - they do all sorts of mechanics in their driveways!

    Welcome and have fun John.

Oh yeah, keep an eye out for the G.B. (Group Buy's, you will save heaps and usually get some very nice gear)

    Cheers,

Hey, Welcome to the forum, it is an awsome site for Z info, and a great car community.
If you can be bothered trecking down south a bit Adelaide Z Cars know pretty much everything about Z's. Its just changed hands but they have kept all their staff so the place is heaps better.
