If fitted correctly with seat belt through the back of it etc?
Trying to justify a possible 350Z or MX5 purchase as a 2nd car but we have a 6mth old baby and dont want to unless its legal as there could be times when bub will need to ride in it.

I drove a 2 Seater XR6 Ute a few years ago and there were factory restraint anchors just behind the passenger headrest. The babyseat was very stable and as far as Im aware, as long as you have Baby Seat anchors that conform to the ADR, its ok.

    EDIT:
    I just checked Vic Regulations
I think this would cover all 2 seaters

Screw legality mate, think about safety!

We'd all love to own another sports car, but the fact is its just not practical when you've got little ones to cart around.

This was like the 1st site a google search presented but im sure there are a million others saying the same thing. Won't somebody please think of the children!

i dont see what would be at all dangerous about this

as long as its mounted properly it should be fine ,definitely the front of a 350z would be safer for a baby that the back of a vn commodore or some old 4 door like that

    What's not to see?

In a front on collision, with your baby buckled in the front seat of a 4303 mm sports car, you have to agree it is goin to end in tears. There is simply less car to dispel the energy generated in a collision then if your baby was secured in the back seat of a larger, longer car, for example a VN commodore.
Another issue you must consider is the standard passenger side airbags fitted to these sports cars. If these airbags inflate then it is guaranteed that the driver will sustain injuries, usually burns to the inside of the arms as a result of the friction generated as the bag expands as well as the gasses igniting inside. What do you think a 250km/h+ inflating bag is goin to do to your child in the front seat.
I was speaking with a bloke who attends crash scenes, he told me a gruesome tale of a woman decaptitated by he knees as she had her feet resting on the dash when her passenger side airbay deployed.
Airbags are generally designed for adults, originally they were supposed to keep stupid americans from going through the windscreen because they werent wearing seatbelts. They are much safer and effective nowadays but still why would you take the risk?
Kids shouldnt be in the front seat of any vehicle, especially infants in child restainers.

It is only illegal if there are front passenger airbags or ...

.....there are no child restraint points.

If there are no child restraint points you are not able to use a baby capsule. You are still able to use a booster seat however if you have seatbelts (a given these days) and your child is over 14 kgs.
