Hey guys, does anyone know if you can replace a NA 300zx engine with the newer 350z v6? It has more kw/nm, but im no mechanic so I dont know if the hoses and connections would be too difficult to connect (or if it would even fit in for that matter!)

I've got a 1990 aus spec and im just curious if id be better off with a new engine rather than a rebuilt one...any links to sites or shops with 'new' 300zx engines would be greatly appreciated, thanks

I doubt it would fit easily

also you'd need the transmission to bolt up to it. I'm sure with an extreme amount of money it could be engineered in but why would you? Far better to source a rebuilt Z32 engine.

220kw might have something to do with it...

fair bit more than the z32 NA engine...

I Don't think john put the z33 engine in after all... pretty sure its still a VG30DETT in the slot car (at least I think thats who you are talking about)

    Benny_C About as subtle as...

You would be FAR better off doing a NA to TT rather than

a VG30DE to VQ30DE conversion. - and you'll get more power sticking with the TT.

A few people have done this Aus spec NA to Twin Turbo conversion and you'd get any help/advice you need right here in this forum.

Miksta is doing this very conversion as we speak. the link to his thread is here.

    Project TT conversion

Hope this is of some help.

    Cheers,
    Ben.

    RTA rules

Anyone know the RTA regs concerning the allowable size of an engine (displacement) vs. weight of the car. Is this rule strictly enforced and is there a way around this?

Also what's the regs concerning firewall modifications (extend by 3 inches)? Again is there a way around this?

Now to get back on track.

If its possible to get around these two RTA regs then it might be possible to transplant a Holden LS1 V8 engine. This might work out cheaper in the long run with cheaper parts and more mechanics.

Stock LS1 engine/trans range from 5k-8k and around 225-300fwkw. Put the aps TT and you could see power figures of around 400rwkw (with stock internals and trans) and still get 8.0L/100km on the highway:)!!!.

I had my NA engine rebuilt at Nissport

Call them on 9580-2660 and ask them about the rebuild.

    Cheers

6k for an ls1, 2-3k for the 6 spd gear box

the ls1 fits as ive seen pics of one in the 300zx, mate it up, keep the stock 3.7 diff, ls1 edit, exhaust, cams and you'd have a nice N/A 300rwkw
lets not forget the ls1 is lighter than the vg30 due to be alloy, you save around 100kg using this engine.. 100kg lighter, shit load of torque, 300rwkw and the ANGRY cammed v8 roar.. in a zed body.. man thats sex..

    IB ?????

Sounds like a good idea but it wouldn't bolt straight in ...>>

you'd need to find a workshop that does engine conversions.

    Good luck.

Went to Summernats this year...saw a 900hp at the treads Gen3

So that's what all the fuss is about;). There was another commie with some sort of monster small block making 1300hp on the dynocell.

yeah but the LS1 at that power level would last about 5,000Km.

you can get 300rwkw out of em reliably, more so than the vg,

    its also about 80kg lighter..

theres also more room to work on the engine, its so much cleaner looking, lets not forget the lumpy v8 at idle, it suits the ZED

All the engineers costs and fabrication costs associated with doing that install.

that LS1 engine looks LOWER in the engine bay

    which should improve handling

also its about 100kg lighter (engine plus tranny) according to that guy

sounds like an alternative if your engine blows up and you have to do major works :)
