My alarms remote is starting to play up, it sometimes works and sometimes does nothing... It's just getting worse and worse and I can see the day where it stops working completely is not far off. Is there any way I can get a replacement remote? I have no idea what brand alarm it is or anything. Opening the car with the keys is not an option as the drivers side lock has been disabled, the passenger side lock works, though the alarm goes off if I put the key in. Not happy at all. I now have a Zed as an ornament in my garage. EDIT: It's not the batteries either.
Best bet is to contact an alarm installer in your area to come out and have a look. They should be able to sell you a replacement remote and/or fix the alarm etc
same here, when mine starts to fail i just swap battery good as new TRY swapping the bat with a new battery again, perhaps use a good quality one.
It's definately not the battery. 100% sure of that. I guess I'll have to get an alarm guy out and hopefully get a replacement off them.. I didn't even know that was possible.. Thanks guys.
If you have a second remote, which doesn't appear to be the case you'd be able to determine if your problem is the remote or the receiver. Typical problems with remotes (apart from battery's losing charge) are dry joints on the circuit board. If the range of the remote is still good when it works then I would suspect a dry solder joint, which can be fixed by resoldering the entire circuit board.
My 2nd remote is dead... This is my last one. I was fiddling with it earlier and there's a round screw type thing which I'm guessing adjusts the frequency or something and while holding the unlock button in and turning that the car unlocked.... It seemed pretty loose when I was turning it so maybe it's moving slightly whilst the keys are in my pocket and the frequency keeps changing to the wrong one or something? If I can get a new replacement then I'll do that, this remote looks really old anyways, came with the car. I'd rather not rely on such ancient technology.
Hey guys, if you remote is stuffed, try this site. Remote control list Shows lots of remotes and any known details of whose system it was. Could help in locating a new one. Cheers, Simon.
Mine isn't on the list, haha. Closest thing there to mine is #97. Probably the same brand by the design.
This happened to me as well. I fixed it by opening up the remote and fiddling with the frequency of the signal it sends out. All I used was a jewelers screw driver and fixed. Just turn it small amounts until it works. I can come round and show you if want as live nearby.
Yep turning it seems to work. Turned it a bit while holding the button in worked. I've found where the frequency thing needs to be now but it's a little loose still... Might put a little super glue on it to hold it in place. Looks like one of it's legs that sits in the circuit board is a bit bent, might have to take it out and switch it with the frequency thingie in the dead remote that looks better condition. How it managed to get bent, who knows... Not even sure it's connected properly. Now I just need a soldering iron + solder.
