The drone, volume and vibration of all the panels in the car was really getting to me while driving. Took the car down to The Muffler Man in Prahran, had a long chat and they fixed the problem. Basically, chop off the current canons which did absolutely nothing for volume control, and put on some big oval stainless steel mufflers and tips. Also replaced the piping from the CATs back with stainless steel (mandrel bends), 2.5 inch (same size as before)tubing while keeping the current X-pipe and hotdogs. Car sounds great, nice and quiet while driving and a really deep awesome note when you get on the gas..:) Pics to follow soon as soon as I've cleaned them and polished them up..:)

    Nice move Mark

You got to love s/steel. Those canon mufflers don't do a great deal.

Good one Mark, not to mention saving your hearing.

I also went for a/market mufflers (Landcruiser - huge ones) almost identical to the original and the sound I would describe about the same as yours... deep but quiet on idle and on normal cruising (beautiful), step on the pedal and it sounds like a V8 Supercar and oooohhhhhhh no drone....

    Happy for you!!!!!!

Glad you have sorted your noisey issue!

I left my new mufflers on for a whole 4 days before I ripped em off and put the stockers back on. I got a measurement of 87 dBA inside the cab, ear damaging!!! I would like to see the photo's of your new setup especially the mufflers and X-Pipe. Are your new mufflers a straight through design? The mufflers I fitted are a large oval stainless item but thet made no difference in volume than running no mufflers at all from the stock H-Pipe.

    no....

the new mufflers are not a straight through design. The air inside travels through a curved section which greatly reduces the sound. Each muffler was quite expensive (about $600-700 each) but they do a great job. I cant comment on power loss (if any) but the car feels the same. I'll know more when the car is on the dyno in the next few months. To be honest, I'll gladly loose a couple of killowatts to attain the sound and volume I have now. I have looked these mufflers up on the net and they are used in big horsepower vehicles so probably overkill for my NA. But that indicates to me that they shouldnt effect performance. Also, the place where I had them fitted has a photoboard and these mufflers have been put on a lot of performance cars that they have worked on. I'll post some pics up soon...

    Edit:
actually, just having another look at the mufflers, they are a straight through type of muffler but they are offset meaning the airflow curves a little. But not as restrictive as non-straight through mufflers.

    Cheers
