After yesterdays run i confirmed there is a water loss problem

I'll check it again after it cools down ( my wife took HER car to church). If there is, my plan is to do a compression check (to find how deep I have to go) and park it up and start pulling it down as a christmas present to myself. Was there a parts list somewhere for a plenim pull? Do we get the parts from Nissan? Trouble is Wife will use the car carefully Wed, Thurs , Friday checking the water each day because I won't have another car for her until next Saturday. Bit of a worry , but it blitzes the trip to work and back without o/heating

Sounds like a head gasket to me. Next morning when the engine

is cold and you start it does it run a little rough?.....then water is in the cylinder.

If not then I would still do a compression check and as you do have a close look at the plugs for little pits around the tip....signs of rust etc.

I hope its not but unexplained overheating problems usually have the head gasket as their culprit.:(

An up date on my troubles

I just took the car to BRM who did a chemical check of the coolant and there is evidence of a leaking head gasket, They are about 10k away and I drove with no air on, and never went into boost and it didn't go over 85C. After topping up the water slowly drove home until a couple of Kays away and then drove "normally" air on, full boost in 1st a couple of times and had 100C as I drove into the driveway.Time now to contemplate the future.Do I 1.Just have the headgaskets replaced
    2. Pull the engine at home, bore it fit forged pistons, bearings, heads O/hauled,bling thing
3.BRM have engines that they will build up to any spec. I want and just do a straight exchange
    4. Talk to Gavin Wood
My daughter asked if I was just goimg to fix it up and sell it, or just sell it as is and I almost choked (her). We can look at this as an opportunity to make a nice Zed even stronger!

    My opinion Vic

I personally would go for option 2 (but that's just me) and have the car off the road for a couple of months or so.

Failing that I would go for option 4 - pay GW to do the job for you or

BRM for an engine swap which will probably get you up and running in the shortest possible time but might cost the most.

I definitely wouldn't just do the head gaskets while you're in that deep.

    My 2ยข worth.

Hey Baron its not so bad my head gasket hemmoraged and so I pulled

the engine myself and did her up.

The bores were fine as so was the crank ...a overhaul on the heads a hone and a few rings and bearings and away I go:cool: ...errr after a couple of months and $3500 later but I did a few mods and she is hot but reliable.

Its not the end of the world mate

Just the person I want to talk to:thumbsup:

I've decided to do it myself but need some information on thinggs like where to get the heads done, where to get parts etc.Thinking of O/S forged pistons etc at the same time. Did you replace the head bolts with studs?
