    g'day,
what do ppl think of these tyres for everyday use on a zed. no track or anything, just everyday street driving commuting to uni etc.
is one better than the other?
    cheers.

I believe nankangs are in the same price bracket ... go nankangs if you have access to them ... i had sava's on my car :sick:, i put nankang on the front the 4 sava's were destroyed at QLD raceway in one night...

I have Sava Intensa on my Zed, no Gripes here!

They are wearing extremely well and the traction has been quite good, I really have to push them hard to get them to skate. At $129 a pop fitted, can't complain :)

    Cheap tyres???

It's a sad fact of life, but there is no such thing as a cheap, good handling, long wearing, all weather, high speed, performance tyre.
If you drive a "shopping trolley", you may get satisfactory use from "bottom end" tyres, but a high performance vehicle MUST have the best tyres available. They are the vital link in the battle between safety and disaster.
Every cent you spend on mods, accessories, and the car itself(not to mention the lives of the occupants, and other innocent road-users), is at risk of being thrown away in an instant, by an ill-advised choice of a "cheap", less suitable tyre.
I recently had a one-third of the sidewall of a Kuhmo tyre (a tyre which many people on this site recommend)completely delaminate, whilst driving at around 90-100kph. Fortunately, the tyre didn't blow-out, but it scared the shit out of me because, a few days earlier, I and my wife had been on a cruise with other Zedaholics, and there had been some very quick driving, on very winding roads. Had this tyre decided to delaminate at that point in time, I would probably not be typing this now.

    Re: Cheap tyres???

    Its an easy equation.

    Cheap tyres $800

    Good tyres $1200-$1400

    Insurance excess $600

You only have to be saved from one accident because you bought excellent performing tyres to recoup your money.

I have had $200 dollar each FALKENS that where crap and I have currently Bridgestone Potenza G3's

40% more is worth every cent IMHO.

If you can afford it buy the BEST tyres you can.

    F1's, Potenza G3's or So-1's, TOYO's

    You wont regret it.

    Nexens 3000s

i got quoted $165 for the front tyres (235/45/R17) and $175 for the rears (255/45/R17) each that is :)

That's mates rates apparently... what is the retail on these?

    Research!!

The very latest wheels or Motor magazine has a tyre test in it and the driver was Neil Bates. According to them there is VERY little between the cheapest and most expensive tyres, these were in 18 inch. I also read in the same mags a few months ago in 17 inch tyre comparison 235/45/17 and Goodyear tyre came 1st, Maxxis tyre 2nd! and Nexen 3rd! and they were the two cheapest. The driver in that test was Warren Luff (I think). Thats who I'd be listening to.

    bit over the top

Sorry don't agree here at all. Saying a high performance vehicle MUST have the best tyres available is just ludicrous. If you have awesome tyres on your car there will be a nice high limit between traction and breaking traction, you learn that limit and you live. If you have shit tyres on your car you need to understand that your limits will be reduced, but the car can still be driven to the limits of the tyres fitted. Again, learn that limit; stay on the good side of it, and live.

I get pretty sick of people saying 'you must spend $300 a tyre or you're just asking to die', it's bullshit. Push past the limits of the good tyre and you'll be just as dead (or pissed off about smashing your car) as when it happens on a crap tyre.

    i hv G3's

and maybe they are good, but i'm going to get better ones next time

in the wet im still spinning my rears by accident, however they are 225's which is bullSH!T

if you have a TT then your rears can legally be 8.5inch rims and 245 rubber

which i will upgrade to asap

    im thinking pirelli or something...

the G3's are classified as high performance... but i think you should go for ultra performance if you like to open her up and give it a good thang

    Re: i hv G3's

    Hmmmm I like the G3's. I have 235 18 inch fronts and 265 18 inch rears.

IMHO they are VERY GOOD. easily the best I have had for quite a while. Very hard to spin the wheels of the NA even if it's extermely wet.

The FALKENS are extremely slippering by comparison.

Maybe the NEXENS are quite good. I am happy to accept that. But I havent tried them. I swore never to skimp on tyres again after I went from Yokohamas A-08 on my old 200zx to FALKENS and it was the biggest dissapointment and mistake I ever made. Besides marrying my second wife that is !!

    Re: Nexen 3000s

Have 235/45/17 front and 255/40/17 rear. Think I paid about $820 including 4-wheel alignment.(this was 6 mths ago)

Remember there was an extra $30 in freight to get them out of Brisbane (to NSW North Coast).

I probably could have saved about $80 getting them on the Gold Coast, but it wasn't convenient at the time.

While I'm sure there are better tyres out there, I,ve found the Nexens OK for me.

A general rule of thumb regarding tyres.

Country of manufacture will prevail in reliability of tyres. Lloyd mentioned about his bad experience with Kumho Tyres but I am pretty sure Kumho tyres are manufactured in either Korea or China, both of these countries have never had a good reputation regarding reliability of products period, although they are getting better. Stick to tyres either made in OZ or Japan. I chose Sava because they are Australian made by Goodyear.
