    Hi guys,

I'm not much of an electrician but I usually install my own sound systems and have done a few in my time.... however I'm having alittle bit of a problem.

I was installing a Sony CDX S2210X system. Everything was fine once i hooked it up and tested it.... then all of a sudden it cut out and the only thing it will do is allow me to put in or take out the cd when the ignition is turned on. I sorta lost my patience at this point and so I havn't removed all panels to get to the stereo again to check if it is a fuse thats blown... yet.... ( I will this weekend)...

    Have I.....

    A. blown the fuse for the continues power?

    B. blown the fuse on in the unit?

    C. stuffed the entire unit?

It's wierd as some power must be going into the unit as I can put a cd in, but the unit won't light up or do anything else.... I was thinking i might have just blown the fuse for continues power and since it needs both that and ignition power it's just not getting enough power supply to power the entire unit.

Please tell me if I'm on the right track....

It's going into the 280zx so you literally have to remove half the dash to get to the stereo again... so hopefully someone can diagnose the problem before i dismantle the car again...

    cheers...

ok car audio is usually pretty simple,
    things 2 check .
*** Is the unit Grounded properly?
*** Have u got the unit wired up 2 the correct power source?

my guess is the unit is properly not grounded properly, never trust the factory grounding wires make up your own and connect it direct 2 the chassy.
other than that u may have wired up the unit to the wrong wire, usually headunits only need to be wired up to 1 power source that is only on when ignition is on.

i dunno other than that good luck

made sure it was grounded properly...

have it screwed into the chassis pretty solidly.

I'm sure it's wired fine since it working origially, but i'm gonna have another look at it. I think i've narrowed it to a fuse that was there before i put the stereo in ... from the continues power supply cable.

I would need to hook both up for it to work, not just the ignition, so that i have memory settings...

anyway I'm starting to think that this may be it... although i can't seem to open the casingfor the fuse. It's closed tight. so i thought I might cut it right out and put a new fuse and casing in.

I think the fuse may have blown when i moved the headunit slightly whilst i was still testing it. The connections wearn't soldered at that point and only a very dodgy covering on them. They may have touched something to cause the fuse to blow.... we'll thats my theory anyway.

    _______

    Now the other question is.... since fuses seem to come marked with amp resistance and i can't find the amperage marked anywhere on the system, the equation would be;

Watts divided by volts = amperage

the stereo markes 52W x 4. would the appropriate equation still be 52 divided by 12 volts = 4.3 amps?

or does it difer cause of the x4 factor?

    Thanks for the help guys

    Dude

the chassis you talk of??? Check your ground, from memory the chassis you are talking about is not grounded.

    Cheers

    Re: Dude

Some cars you can ground to the chassis but i know my car caused problems with the installer, because it will only work if he grounded the unit to the ground wire that was located with the acc/normal power etc.

See if it has a dedicated grounding cable.
