I took a few pictures of the rusted part of my engine bay. Do you guys think it should be replaced or just sprayed with stuff, scraped off and cleaned up?

Any any idea what these speakers I have in the car are? They're kenwoods but I see no other markings..

Sorry if the pictures take a while to load. I'm hosting them off my own computer because my normal webservers down. I made them smaller in size (quality and dimension) so it shouldn't be too bad..

depends how much you want to spend and how much u like your z.

But what ever you do fix it as soon as you can, before it gets any worse. If you are planning on doing it yourself then I would cut it out and replace it(by the look of it you might have to cut it out anyway, cause it does look pretty bad).

    after scraping it..

    had a hole too

straight after applying the convertor and inhibitor/primer..

after about 20 mins i sprayed some light water on it to help the conversion process..

had a look at it couple of days ago, its gone all glassy like a clear coat.. now all i need to do is spray over it with some enamel metalic grey paint..

how much would you reckon for a full fix up and where would you go (in Sydney)? UAS or just some garage?

Any respectable panel shop could do that for you, if you were in melb

I could have sent you to a friend of mine (a fellow zedder and a panel beater as well). In terms of price I wouldn't pay much more than 300-400 bucks.

    it looks like

you're missing the plastic tray the battery is meant to sit on?

i have my tray, took it out for the purpose of the pics.. :)

theres no need to take it to the shops, unless theres more extensive rust that you havent pictured, $25 of rust prevention, steel brush, paint brush, and an enamel spray can should fix it up for you, and kill the rust.

did them the same as the tray, did my best to get as much rust

off as possible.. scrubbed the shit out of it, grabbed rags to get out lose flakes, brushes, steel toothrbush.. wet cloth you name it.. in the end i got as much as i could so i just stabbed it and soaked it with the inhibitor.. hope it works! took about 30 mins to do all up + about 2 hrs before i put battery back in

    red32 You talkin' to me?

Re: and what are these speakers?

You'll need to remove one of the speakers fom the housing. All the model specs are on a label, or printed, on the magnet on the underside of the speaker.

That would piss me off just knowing it was there

I would have to cut the battery shelf out and fix it properly.

cut the battery tray out and move the battery to the rear

use a spot weld drill bit to get the battery tray out as it's only spot welded in place.

Why would you do that? And where abouts would you put the batterY?

to put the battery in a better environment that's not so hot

I put my battery in the boot of the car with 70sqmm cable running up to the firewall that has a cable gland to bring the wire through the firewall and then onto the starter. For the ground I've run the same size cable to one of the tie down strap hooks in the boot as it had a nice size bolt going into the floor pan which should supply a good enough ground.
