Most of you know I am still completing Uni. We are required to do a 3-semester project before we graduate. Our group applied for a project and it was accepted.

The options are pretty much endless for our project. To sum up what we are required to do, we have to monitor sensors / tune ecu via an LCD touch screen.

We have been given an 8" touch screen LCD which has endless I/O devices and is very compact!!. It has from memory 'don't have one on me yet - should be a few weeks'

3 or 4 com/serial male and female ports
    usb ports
    audio
    pciX slot
    attachment for a uC
built in HDD which we can install windows CE onto 'will be using to implement the system'
attachment for an additional flash HDD
    160mhz cpu
    ethernet
    5 pin din
    ps2 ports

We have over a year to do this project and by the end of it all we hope to have a program which will monitor sensors, detect problems - out of range values etc. and if we can, tune functions.

I will be purchasing the interface from PLMS in order to communicate with the ecu soon.

If anyone has any information / open code / suggestions of what they would like to be monitored / how it should be displayed etc please post them up here.

Hopefully if the system is ever functional, we may make the code open source for anyone to use-modify-improve.

Any input into the project would be appreciated.

    Thank you

p.s We are going to design it for nissan systems and as for now, the program will be based around the Z.

    That sounds unreal!

I don't have any information to assist you, but please keep us informed of your progress. Recently i've been looking around the net at conzult type programs to display sensor information only (ie not to perform testing) and to have a customizable display for the guages I select to display. I've been tossing up as to whether I could be assed getting involved and create my own guage interface. Good luck to you!

I will keep you updated with how everything goes. This first semester is mo

re the design phase. If we get time we will start to play around with the functions on the ecu.

A customizeable display for the guages would be a neat idea. I will keep that in mind

there is a program made by a guy in the US. . .

its called "Zemulator", and is somewhat similar to what you seem to want to do. The d00d who owns the program and sells it can be found on tt.net

but, if u hop on google and search for Zemulator ull get the links. . .

hope that helps, and maybe he could help you

certainly sounds a great and challenging project .. good luck with it

... would pexzed's recent project with his in vehicle, touch screen, laptop, plus, plus, plus have some relevance to what you are attempting ...????

I assume he is using the laptop to function as part of the system??

If so, then it will be different.. The LCD screen will have windows CE installed onto it and everything will run straight off the LCD screen, the only additional hardware will be the cable for the DDL connection and the converter which comes with the cable.

Might have a look at Zemulator, sounds interesting

I will post up some pics of the screen once we get one each.

    meth.

    sounds fun

might want to check madmacka's (sp?) recent thread where he gave details of his flushmount lcd touchscreen, to be used with his nizlive software he is devoloping.
also, if you haven't come across it yet, defintely check http://www.tangentrix.com/forums. sure you'll find many ideas there and also people will be interested in your work.
