Hi, I'm replacing the centre bearing in the tail shaft this week, and am wondering if you's reckon it's worth replacing the uni-joints while you're there.

Where do you get the uni-joints and exactly what would you ask for when getting them? And around what should I pay, or are they that cheap it's not worth messing round with the price?

    Any advice appreciated

    Regards

you carn't replace the oem unis, they are

crimpped in. My advice if you havnt already bought the centre bearing is get a one piece shaft, much more cost effective. bout $500 installed. There are plenty of post about them i suggest you search and read a few. (one piece tailshaft)

You can replace the uni joints in the std 2 piece tail shaft.

A split yoke is used and so are new replaceable unversal joints. Cost = $400
You also have a choise of greasable or non greasable type of universals. Because I have access to the front uni that got replaced, I went for greasable

Got my tail shaft moded to take a replaceable front unijoint (the one that goes to the tranny) and turned out to be a week of frustration and inconvinience.

All came down to improper balance which resulted in the car vibrating its brains out.

Then had to organise for a mechanic to take shaft out and return it to the place of fabrication for 2ble checking.

Anyway, the key appears to be in the balance of both 1/2 pieces - both the front and rear ends and to make sure both pieces are mated together as they were originally from NISSAN.

    Long story short.
If anyone wishes to mod the existing 2 piece, INSIST ON A PERFECT BALANCE OF BOTH ENDS OF BOTH SHAFTS. And not to assume anything. Also INSIST BOTH SHAFTS WHERE THEY JOIN BE MARKED PERMANENTLY so that they forever be able to go back together as NISSAN had intented.
Need to be very clear on this if you don't want to be stuffed around and be inconvinienced.

    Or

Go one piece and insist on a PERFECT BALANCE.
