Clear indicator attachment solution

I bought some NISMO clear side indicators for my car recently. You may already know that the NISMO indicators have a 2 lug socket for the globe holder and the standard 300zx indicator has 3 lugs.

Rather than modify the new clear lens to accommodate the original socket, I checked out my friends 180SX globe holders. They fit the new NISMO clear indicators perfectly, a tight fit. So I went a wrecker and picked up one (because they only had one). I then went to another wrecker and found one of a Silvia that fits exactly the same. However the plastic is grey and the 180SX is white (same as the NISMO lenes). Having them fit firmly will stop any duct getting in an discolouring the clear plastic. I don't want to put the clear indicators on and see the amber globe behind it, so I bough 2 yellow LED's with a white frosted resin, so you wont see the globe or the globe holder. Should look real neat.
Her is a picture showing the NISMO lenes, original globe socket (brown) and the 180SX socket.

Note: only the left hand side indicator on the 180SX is a 2 lug socket, the one on the right is a 3 lug socket, same as 300ZX.

Nissan interchange so many part on 300zx, Skylines and 180SX's, you would have thought all the globe socket would be the same!

    Such a curious thing...

It seemed fairly simple to me...

Rather than soldering a gaping hole in your brand new indicator, why not file down the 3rd lug on the actual indicator globe insert? Mine are very "crumbley" as the plastic is old and perished - it will not take much to file or even sand them down...

Is there any reason this can't be done?

You can file off one lug, but...

the two remaining lugs will still not line up on opposite sides. This means that the holder will only attach to the new lense by one lug and then the rubber seal will not be tight enought to stop dust and water from getting in.

Dependa on how sussy you are with the fit. I'm really fussy;)
