hey i was just wondering, next to my automatic transmission knob (above) there's a little switch which turns off the 'power' and 'hold' lights near the left/right indicator.

anyone have any idea what they do? and also the light inbetween them that hardly ever lights up?

    thanX.

So much good information only a few key strokes away. I just did a search for hold button and one of the responses was....this one.

I think when you press the hold button, it holds the car in the gear

that it was in when you pressed it. (only when in D),this gives you more control when going around corners so that the auto does not shift mid corner.

    Nearly right, Zedzter :)

HOLD actually 'locks out' first, so you take off in 2nd... ideal for slippery conditions - rain, snow etc.

Of course we get lot's of snow in Qld  and last time it rained properly was 1989

So hold uses every gear but first??

I dont see how thats possible, because when youre driving at say 80 and you floor it, it doesnt downshift to 2nd or 3rd when youve got hold on.

After 3 years i finally learnt the complete functions of the auto switch

thanx to darkstorm he told me something i never realised.

When in D mode and a/t the car will shift and drive like normal auto cars should, When you full throttle there is a switch that activates and puts you in power mode.

when in hold and D it will launch in second gear from stand still and shift up through all the gears. with exception of when you put the car in first gear and shift it manually, hold will give you full control and your car will lanunch in first and stay in first until you shift it into second.

Power will make the box shift at peak point around red line, if manually selecting the gears and shifting from 1st to 2nd, 2nd to 3rd, it will keep reving out & gearbox will not shift until the computer tells it to shift. You are not in full control you need to put it in hold to be in full control.

    Power Hold switch

I also wandered and someone else told me on another site (zcar.com)...
"Power" is a setting that will downshift more aggressively than norrmal and upshift at lower rpm than normal. more sporting - less fuel efficient.

"Hold" is a setting that will downshift less aggressively than normal and upshift at lower RPM than normal. Less sporting - more fuel efficient.

If heither are toggled the tranny will operate as "normal".

correct, but power upshifts more agressively

and hold does not do anything for fuel economy but waste your fuel especially in d. Put your car in d and hold then try and drive up a inclined drive way and you will understand.

pete, the search engine does need revision....

it only searches entire strings rather than words which makes searches extremely frustrating sometimes...

I know it will be rectfied in the future but I can understand why people may be frustrated using it....

    Cheers

Simon has put a bit of work into the search.......>>

And it is greatly improved. It isn't perfect yet but is getting there. You should give it another chance.
