Car rego day tomorrow at Vic roads. I think the transfer duty is about $40 per $1000 car value (?) so how much should I say its worth? It's a '90 mod-free import with cracked front bar and rear wing, otherwise tidy.
    Any Suggestions?

Just remember, Purchase price stated for stamp duty, transfer etc....>>

Might make a difference in the vehicle valuation for insurance. For stamp duty the law requires you state the purchase price or market value which ever is GREATER, and most insurance companys will check this figure if there was ever a "total loss" claim, Just be very careful ;)

I doubt insurance companies would refer to this figure

My last car was written off when a taxi cleaned me up, and I ended up with a $7500 payout plus i got to keep all the stereo equipment, and get a refund on my rego - so all up about $9500. I bought the car a year and a half earlier for $6400, and put down the market value at $5500 - which was about right at the time. Insurance companies never give u what you paid for the car - they send out an inependant valuer to price what your car would have been worth before the accident. When i imported my zed, i just Put down the FOB price, and qld transport was cool with that.

    cheers
