Yesterday on my way to work I put my foot on the brake to stop at an intersection and the car died! If i put my foot on the brake to slow down for a corner the car dies:( It wont idle but it starts up like normal. Also last night on my way home from work, I started it up and it was idling really rough so i put my foot on the accelerator and nothing happened. I pushed it right to the floor and nothing.

Any help on diagnosis would be much appreciated guys.

sort of sounds like the brake booster is leaking.

My car was stalling when i took it out of gear and braked to stop

and it ended up just being the idle control being out of wack. Bump up your idle and it should fix the problem.

    brake booster

checked that doesnt seem to be leaking.
Tightened accelerator cable so it revs higher but it still dies about a minute after i start it up

If it were leaking, you may not be able to tell externally ...>>

It has a diaphram inside and that's what would be leaking.

You shouldn't adjust the idle with the throttle cable. You need to do it at the Idle Air Adusting unit at the back of the plennum on the passenger side.

Sounds like a big vacuum leak

Question as to whether it is inside or outside the brake booster. Do an air test.

Ian, is the Idle Air Adjusting unit just on TTs?

I've looked for it on my NA and can't find it.
I've had idling problems recently so in canberra last week I ended up adjusting the idle by "zeroing" the shaft linking the two throttle-bodies, disconnected the TPS with the ignition on so the ECU would "learn" the new position, then reconnected the TPS and adjusted the shaft position until the car would idle (now about 700rpm in drive). Crude, but effective!

    Yes, on all Z32.

Between plennum and firewall. You almost have to look through the battery.

Turn clockwise to decrease revs, anti-clockwise to increase

    See - I'm not totally useless:p

From what I've seen (or rather, NOT seen)

you probably would need to take the engine out to get at it :LOL::LOL:
I'll have another look, with a torch this time, and see what I can find.

    Cheers,
