first up anyone with a lot of experence in routers please. it will have to be over this forum cos mine isnt working and i'm blameing the isp!!!

    secondly whats the best priceing for adsl around $70 a month and unlimited downloads. Whats the service like and any proplems with them...{warts and all }

Ive got a small server running on 10.0.0.3 and it gets out ok but all other ip's higher can only get the DNS server then they die out.

Its not the cables .not the lan side. and the strange thing is when I ping out to anywhere I get a dns server redirect then all packets get lost. MY ISP are blaming me and my local intranet. as I said to them " Please explain how I get the redirect from the DNS then the packets get lost . If it was a intranet proplem then I wouldn't get to the dns server and all I would get is either host not known or request timed out reports!!!"

Any answers would be great I'll log on angain tomorrow

i think tpg has a good offer on at the

moment. something like $50 for 20gig 1.5mbit adsl. pretty damn good. thats in vic anyway not sure about other states.

as for tech questions, can't really help you. if you can't get any help here, try http://www.whirlpool.net.au.

    so..

so what your saying is, your ISPs primary DNS is redirecting you to a secondary and then not resolving the address? and it works for your server but not your computers on your network.

The fact that it works for the server, kind of proves theres not a issue at the ISP end.

Can you explain your network setup a bit more?

edit: do you alocate your primary/alternate DNS. Or leave them automatic. You may have specified a incorrect secondary DNS.

    you nailed it it one.

I have learned more about routers in the last 5 days then I have ever wanted to....

The more I go into it. It look like my router has died. Its one of those strange faults that will never be tracked down.

i think the only plan of action is to first reset the router and if that dosnt work then reflash the router the see if the fault goes away. If all else fails, give up and ran away screaming shouting "I'm a chicken ...I'm a chicken"

as for settings all are automatic . the dns is auto assigned. gae way is 10.0.0.2 sub 255.0.0.0 , server is on 10.0.0.3 all others are >.4 to >.8 and the xp machine is .12

    Try

    opening a cmd shell

    Run the command "tracert cisco.com"

It will show all the hops from you to cisco.com, also resloving them as you go. Should prove where the problem lies

Feel free to call me for help if you need. This is what I do for a living :)

What sort of router is it?

Is DHCP enabled on the router; is DNS caching turned on on the router?

so dns caching is now off? if not, try with it off.

I assume you have configured the DNS in the router?

    I highly recommend

getting an different router. Webexcel are quite problematic in my experience (tech support for at an ISP is my job)

I recommend a Billion or Dlink router

    Either that

Or the port forwarding in your router has gone heywire.
Have you downloaded any new firmware or bios updates latey, or had a power failure?
You might have to open the ports again in the router software.

Re: i think tpg has a good offer on at the

TPG are offering 2-6mb adsl with unlimited downloads (speed capped at 20gig) for 49.95 in sydney. First to offer those speeds to residential customers.

    pretty basic fix

specify the DNS in your lan > tcp/ip properties. This will solve your problem I would think.

Alternatively, factory reset modem and reconfigure will probably work also. Webexcels are pretty cheap and nasty. I would recommend dlink / netcomm / billion / netgear.

Also check out westnet broadband pricing if you are interested :)
