Hey guys and gals...after quite a few hiccups (took more than a month to compliance, then it got rejected at he pits, turbo died 2 days after driving it off the lot, etc etc :p ) i have finally joined the happy Zedder's Club!

couple more pics pics here for those interested (warning - not for those on 56k! lots of high rez pics)

so far i'm very happy with it, but i have some questions on caring for the paintwork.

Are there any good guides anywhere for this? (i've had a look and could not find anything)

The paint is in pretty good shape overall, but there are a few small chips scratches that i would like to take care of. What's the best way to go about this? Paint touch up kits? Any recomendations?

I've given it a couple of coats of Maguires Wet Look Sealant and Maguires Gold Class, which, as you can probably tell from the pics, came up pretty well...:). Just wondering how often you guys wax yor cars? Problem i keep having is that after a few days, the car gets so covered in dust that i end up washing and waxing it all over again!

    and welcome.

AS to cleaning, follow the Meguiares system instructions (I do) but allow the wax coat to dry for at least 1 hour (in the shade) before buffing. Do this twice or three times in the first year. Consider using the Meguiares "nxt-generation Tech Wax" at the end of the first year (not cheap at $40+ per 532ml, but worth it IMHO) After this, you should be able to just rinse the car with a very weak solution ( 1/2 cap per 5L bucket) of Wash 'n' wax any time it needs it, then chamois dry. Re-apply the wax/sealant once per year after this.

    Have fun,

    nice ride, but one question....

hey dude, hope the zed brings you heaps of joy, looks like a nice car. Just one thing, to me it looks like the suspension is a little high for a TT. Does it have aftermarket suspension??? Usually the J-spec cars (which yours is being a TT) sit a little lower). Just wondering if anything has been doen to the suspension or of my eyes are playing tricks on me..:)

    Cheers

AutoGlym products work good from what i've seen

I saw it used on a car at the autosalon and my god it was awesome. Just a few sprays and wipe and it came out really shiny. Better than anything i've seen before.

    Beautiful car but

The standard wheels on a Z are directional and you need to switch the wheels left to right and vice versa unless of course you also have directional tyres which have been installed the wrong way round (I can't quite make out if they are from the photos). I'm just being pedantic.

    NICE ONE!

Welcome to the forum. Looks like a nice 300zx. Are you in Perth? I think I saw your car at the compliance shop. Did you get it from Leederville Motors?

It may be a good idea to update your profile with your details and the specs for your car. This is important when seeking advice later on!

Have a great time in the Zed! :zlove:

Look after it and have some fun.....Whoooopeeee!

Welcome, is that an 89 model?

I was under the impression 2+2 TT's couldn't be imported anymore, but I'm guessing if the 15 year rule is being used you can? Very nice Zed, black is definately my fav colour on a Zed! The updated seats are a nice touch as well as the 300k speedo

I use Maguires exclusively, have just bought the new Tech Wax but not used it yet. I used to wax about once a month when living in Kalgoorlie and I'd wash her 2 - 3 times a week from all the dust that the mining industry kindly provides.
Living in Perth now it's much better for keeping clean, but seeing as she's still half way through the rebuild the driving is down to NIL :|

For swirl marks Scratch X was pretty good too.

And yes the wheels are on backwards :)

    Very very nice

I just used the three part/step Maquires, cleaner, then polish, then wax.

Took me a day or so to get it all done. But the cleaner is great for getting swirl marks out. My red Zed seems to glow now.

I am very happy with the system. The results are WOW.

I think black cars appreciate a beautiful polish more than some other colours.

The Rainex on the windows is great as well. You hardly have to run the wipers. Saves wearing the windscreen.

    suspension and turbos

not sure about the suspension being a bit higher than normal (i had not noticed and definetly did not get told anything about it). It may have been raised up a bit to get it over the pits cause one of the reason it originally failed compliance was because the exaust was too close to the ground (never heard of that one before)

Yup, it's an 89 J-Spec TT, had 71k on the speedo when i bought it from leederville motors here in WA (will update profile to match...:) )

As for what happened with the turbo, well 2 days after driving it off the lot, it started smoking a lot. and i mean a LOT. After some investigation i figured it was oil leaking into the turbo, so to it to a mechanic to get looked had. They had to completely rebuild the turbo because one of the seals was damaged and the central shaft had a lot of sideways movement to it (not sure if that's the correct terminology, still getting used to all this!). fun. :p

Other than that, had to recently get a wheel bearing done, and going to need to replace the compressor on the air con. Boy am i glad i paid extra for the extended warranty..

Wow...backwards wheels? i had no idea...how does that work exactly? i'll have look at changing them round. How do i tell if they are on the right way or not? it's been at the mechanics a few times since those photos got taken, the guy seems to know his way around an import Z (he has one himself apparently) so he might of since changed them around without telling me...

thanks for all the help & advice!!

I've used the new tech wax

along with the new Meguires car wash and I gotta say :thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Days on, dust and general grime and even with my dodgy paint, sandblasting, steel belt scratches, pin dents and other assorted dents, she still comes up a treat!
