It feels as if the injectors are dirty and sounds like it too specially cruising around in low gears. It is backfiring a lot and it takes a second or third strong stroke of the accelerator for it to kick in you can hear it trying and the exhaust sounds muffled somehow. I have used an injector cleaner and it worked ok for a couple of days but now the problem is back again.
is it safe to drive? will i blow up something if i keep using it?

    any ideas or suggestions?? :(
    THANKS

    What have you done.....>>

Aside from the injector cleaner have you, checked/replaced the fuel filter, cleaned the air filter, checked the O2 sensors, checked for boost leaks......

so far i have checked the air intake(filter)...

I have not yet checked the 02 sensors or the fuel filter, but guess what is the first thing i will do when i get home tonite!!(if i can... how easy is it to get to it(fuel filter)??

    Thanks

    The fuel filter is mounted.....>>

Just in front of the battry, and should be changed roughly every 40,000ks. They aren't expensive, so if you don't know how old yours is then it is probably best just to get a new one. My money is on the O2s though, and an easy way of checking them is to just unplug them and then go for a drive to see if it has made a difference.

    thanks for the advice...............

are the 02 sensors the little boxes connected to the big black plastic pipe that allows air into the engine??
also, this problem only happens after i have been driving for a while and the engine gets a bit hot (not overheating ) but say,a drive from city to mt gravatt.

I believe the little box your referring too is the afm

if you unplug that then your won't be able to rev above 2500rpm (i think).

Don't know where the plug for the O2's. I wouldn't mind know as well though.

The easy way to find the plug.....>>

For the O2 sensors is to first locate the O2s in the exhaust and then follow the wires for them. If they are where they are supposed to be (sometimes moved by mechanics or the mounts on the plugs break) then the drivers side one is mounted on the side of the inlet manifold next to the strut tower, and the passangers one is mounted slightly to the passangers side at the back of the engine.

I had something similar with mine 3 months after I got it>>

the stock mufflers had collapsed inside and were not allowin the business end under the bonnet to expel the dirty gasses out. I must add that my Zed did not backfire just sluggish, but idled OK !!

Something similar with another car was the cats were stuffed. My car would

not accelerate up a hill and the cats actually looked ok but when I replaced them, big difference, power was baack again.
