I know that generally the concensus is the Autotechnica coners. I was curious though if anyone can share their experiences with the TTZ Car Covers as seen here.

Are they worth the 2-3 times the price of an Autotechnica cover?
And just how clean does a Zed need to be for the Autotechnica cover to not harm the finish?

I got a Stillen car cover from ConceptZ Performance

Could have gone for an aftermarket one locally, but, hey, I'm a Zed whore.

ConceptZ had the cheapest one I could find. Check it out here.

The cover works very well, and keeps the car sparkly clean. Also is water resistant, and car stays dry in light rain.

    Cheers

So is the Autotechnica multilayer? I'm not going to be stingey as my car will be out in the weather during business hours so even $500 on a REALLY GOOD cover if it protects everything would be money well spent. :zlove:

I wont use car covers, I used one on a '67 Chev

that I used to have and I found that it rubbed through the paint on the corners. This abrasion was (obviously) caused by the cover moving slightly in the wind. I guess if you've got ya Zed garaged then the wind wont be an issue, but I guess that makes the cover redundant doesn't it ?

I was hoping nobody was going to post anything like that... :(

    Thanks SpaceZ.
Was it a cheap cover you used on the Chev? Did it have a good fit?

Has anyone else had a smilar experience with a high quality cover?

I'm unsure about the wind conditions at work as we've just moved to the new premises but it is primarily a big open grassland and so probably sees are fair breeze.

    car covers

I use a cover bought from Super cheap. It was $45 and is supposed to be water dust sun resistant. The car sit in the garage so wind isn't a problem. Better to have any cover than none I believe

    Personally I disagree...

...I think it would be better to have no cover than a cheap cover given that the paint on your car is treated properly; ie has been polished and waxed recently and properly. That way it has some sort of protection.

In a garage why would you need a car cover? To protect it from dust? Wouldn't it be easier to just hose the zed down and dry it before taking it out?

Please don't get me wrong; I'm not saying your idea is wrong; I'm just questioning why. :)

I use four of the Autotechnica car covers

the waterproof lined ones, at around $140 each. Two inside a garage, and two outdoors. All work well, and don't seem to abrade the paint at all. On the outdoors ones, I use the undercar straps, and make sure they're adjusted tightly, to minimise cover movement.

Make sure you don't get a cover that's too large though, as this will allow wind to move the cover around, especially if it gets under the cover. Oh, and if the car's dirty - don't use a cover. It will abrade the paintwork, and the inside lining of the cover will collect the dirt, and they're (big) buggers to clean properly. If the car is only dusty, I use one of those wax impregnated brushes to clean off the dust before putting the cover on.

    Car covers and dust

Because I live in the sticks, dust is a problem, water is a problem and I hate dirty cars. I have problems with birds crap'n on the car and the occasional cat that gets in. Much easier for me to just cover the car. There is no movement of the cover, so I'm hoping there will be no scratching....

This is just my situation and may not apply to others

Thanks Guys. So what size for the autotechnica?

What size for a 2+2 with relatively stock body shape?

Also how long does the exhaust need to cool for, before you can safely put the cover on?

    Cheers,
    Grenfel (Shaun).

    It depends on >>

whether or not you have an aftermarket rear wing.(Bomex etc)
A friend of mine has a standard bodied Zed, and only needs a size (L) to cover his car.
But with mine, I needed an (XL) so that it also covered the rear wing & down to the exhaust pipes, at the rear end.

Thanks Keza - no rear wing

So a large should do me then.
Do you have to wait for the exhaust to cool right down before you fit the cover? Or does it sit far enough away from the exhaust that it isn't a problem?

If it's hot, then parked in a garage,

I usually put the cover on the roof and rear, and leave it off the bonnet until the engine bay cools a bit, then put it over the bonnet. Exhausts will be cool enough to put it over them virtually straight away.
