    It shouldn't......>>

Since they don't measure the actual car you are driving, but instead use the manufacturers figures for power to weight.

NA Auto should average 14 litre per 100km

Thats using 98 octane fuel over city + highway use.

On a long highway trip e.g. Melb to Syd on Hume Hwy I've seen less than 8 litre per 100km.

    LOL r u crazy? 14 litres per 100 km?

Dude thats a twin turbo not an NA.

I did some research and found the 300zx should be doing

    City: 11.5L/100km
    Hwy: 9.5L/100km

I just got back from wangaratta

I had a full tank of Ultimate when I left home. I just walked back in the door having done 330klms (45 of that fighting my way down Sydney road and back to the Eastern suburbs)

I sat on cruise control most of the trip at about 110

I have used 1/2 a tank full indicated on the fuel gauge. I will fill it up later today and repost the litres.

Around town I get 380 for approx 50-55 litres so this is a HUGE improvement. If it wasnt so damn nice to sink the boot into around town I would probably get much much better economy.

My next step after the exhaust and headers go on is to get the ECU remapped. That will do heaps for city economy I recon. I get pinging at low revs in high gear so it isnt right obviously.

    Auto or Manual???

An Auto will always use more juice - which do you have?

    Auto

Ok I filled it back up, total Klms 340, to fill it back up 36 litres !!

The auto is fine on a trip for economy and probably no worse than the manual as it has a lock up torque converter. So theres no torque converter slip when your cruising.

The 340 Klms includes about 60 to 70 Klms of city driving from Burwood to Cambelfield. Then a 200 klms round trip on the Hume and some high speed and acceleration running around in back roads giving it a bit for some fun. So a good mix.

I recon it would easy get around 9L/100klm if it was straight highway with cruise on.

Theoretically an auto should do better than a manual on a trip......

because overdrive (4th gear) is a lot longer than 5th gear in a manual. So assuming that you are both cruising (at the same speed) in overdrive the auto will return better consumption because it will be using less revs. The theory comes unstuck because in our imperfect world you cannot cruise indefinately in O/D, and when the auto starts grabbing the lower gears the advantage sways back to the manual.

I would imagine that if you were cruising both cars there would be nothing in it, but if you began flexing your right foot the auto would be the bigger guzzler.

Can U tune your 300 to run Unleaded

Aussie delivered 300's are tuned for Unleaded, so can I tune a 300 NA to run unleaded normally instead of Premium?

    Whats involved?

I think they just have to retard your ignition setting some. They may do it in the ECU or by the CAS setting. Not sure.

Whatever the method Less power is the result.

I ran myTT zed on unleaded for 3 years never had a problem

It was a daily driver and it never pinged once.So no you dont need to run it on PULP. mind you it was an auto so it is hard to lug the engine to get it to ping.

    5 suggestions

Install the unifilter (about $150 from Simon TTZ & takes about 1 hour to remove old & fit new)
    Use Premium only
    Clean throttle bodies
Check O2 sensors on a dyno & replace if necessary
Enjoy the Z driving & forget the economy
(I get approx. 10K/L even with a heavy right foot)
