amplifier/speaker problem

I put two tweeters in parallel with my front speakers.
The total resistance at the lead going to the speakers is now 1.3 ohms.
The amp has a tolerance to 2 ohms and if the volume is turned up and/or the balance is not set more to the rear speakers the amp protection comes on and turns off the front speakers.
I understand about changing resistance for DC circuits but not for AC which the speakers use. eg I tried putting 2 ohm resistors in the speaker circuit but the amp just cooked them!
    Is there an easy fix?

aighty holdup, exactly what are you trying to do?

it sounds like ur just trying to get a bit more top end from ur stereo. If ur amp is two ohm stable - that means ur going to keep IMPEDANCE (NOT RESISTANCE!!! impedance is frequency dependant, resistance is not) below two ohms, going below that and the circuitry to protect the internals of the amp kicks in and cuts output (im sure you know that already). Anyway, the only way to make this work AND sound good is to get a pre-packaged woofer/tweeter package. You could easily set it up as either component or 2way and there would be no screwing around trying to get it to work. Im pretty sure you can get a decent Clarion component package rated to 200W for about 180bux.

The thing is, even if you do end up keeping impedance above 2 ohms then your probably going to end up with poor sound quality as the amp sends a large range of frequencies to the tweeters (which there not meant to play) and you change the impedance characteristics of that entire channel, which may lead to troughs and peaks in quality and volume depending on what frequencies are coming out of the speakers.

If u wanna try the resistor idea, go grab one of those 10watt resistors (they're pretty big) - or is it 1watt resistor. hmmm
either way, give it a shot and post back,

    Thanks for comments VeeP
The tweeters & speakers (woofers) are all purchased from Jaycar & supposed to work together!(& cost all up about $200) The tweeters have cross overs to just get the high frequencies.

l0l, ok mrh. I was actually gonna suggest u grab the JayCar catalogue

since i was reading the catalogue just a few hours before i posted.
have u managed to solve the problem thus far?
have u tried ringing Jaycar tech support and asking them?

I was trying to solve the problem from home without a trip back to the city, however James is from Jaycar & has posted & suggested I go back anyhow, so I will be doing that as soon as I can. I will post the solution.
