I have a slight 'bearing noise' in my car. Doesnt matter if it is in 1st-5th or neutral it makes the squeeky noise. But if i Just touch the clutch peddle (even push it just 1cm) the noise goes away. Would this be the thrust bearing? If so is it ok to drive around with it like this? Thanks for any help....
sounds like it my thrust bearing is really rooted and makes a loud high pitched rattle. Clutch depression also makes it go away though. Apparently (and i'm hoping this isn't the case with mine) it can be a thrust bearing on the crank (ie requiring engine pull down) and it'll also make this noise. To discover which one it is you need to test for longitdinal play in the crankshaft. I personally wouldn't drive it in that state, i haven't been driving mine for 3 weeks due to the noise - have to wait till after exams when i'll have time to fix it
Thanks for the reply..> I actually drove it at a short course track day yesterday.... I didn't worsen, but what I did notice is that when the car warms up the noise goes away? Could lubrication be the problem?
same as... Mine started with a very minor noise exactly like you described and I left it for ages, about 6 months...Friends teased me for having a bad thrush bearing..haha. Over that time it would got heaps worse but would stop after the engine warmed up..but started getting really really noisy in the end....so took it to colin up here in qld.. He took the box out and did the thrust bearing. was pretty cheap to fix BUT started happening soon after but back to how it was... a little noise for a few seconds then stopped once warm....bummer...have to take it back again now.
Sure sounds like it! Mine does it too. Mechanic said its not a big problem but yeh it will get slowly worse. If you can find an easy fix, let me know
thrust brg? i have heard of using a hypodermic needle and syringe full of graphite and light oil mixture as a temp fix. i have not seen a mt zed so i don't know if you can gane access to the brg insitu! its only a suggestion!
if the needle was massive you could probably get access to the bearing if you took off the starter motor. But it wouldn't be a very easy access point at all.
